homemade "moped"
built her a couple weeks ago, 50cc 2-stroke, CDI ignition, ~100 miles per gallon (haven't actually measured, but ive been riding almost everyday the whole summer and i haven't even used up the 5L of gas that i bought when i finished building it)
cost me under 250 CAD to build. these pics are a bit out of date, i recently installed this really nice chrome headlight, looks tits. i'm still working on it though, there's always more upgrades i can do. once the parts come in im gonna add key ignition and proper brake lights. what do you guys think?

Wow! Looks surprisingly legit. Nice on the gas mileage. Does the swinging pedals get annoying? Is it loud? Do the fumes from the exhaust ever come up right in your face?

the pedals work the same as on a regular bicycle, you just don't pedal as much. still have to do it to get it to start, and taking off from a stationary position, no clutch takeoffs.
its about as loud as a lawnmower, sounds like a really fat guy belching really loud. the fumes are directed downwards, never had it go in my face, but it does turn white sneakers to black. after i got the engine broken in and messed around with the carb, there isnt even that much fumes.

looks awesome man. maybe encase the motor.. but looks dope, and like you were saying you can always add on and make adjustments/upgrades here and there fairly easily just like any other bike.

engine kit = $200
mods = $50 can of lidocaine because i accidentaly touched the hot muffler =~ $10 gutting the muffler for 10km/h top speed increase and overall power increase = priceless new top speed is 60km/h+, not sure exactly how much because my gauge tops out at 60km/h. much better acceleration too, might just have enough power to do clutch takeoffs now. sweeeeet

i have taken it "offroad" on some grass and a little dirt path, but you cant really ride it like you would a dirtbike, i only have suspension in the front, and even that isn't that great. im loving the pipe mod tho, sounds kinda like a harley when its at low to mid rpms i just checked, if im not mistaken, my bike surpasses the capabilities of the original harley:

I saw some one with that same motor yesterday while working. I heard him come up next to me and at first I thought he had playing cards pinned to his wheels to make the motorcycle noise. It was kinda funny really. Never saw him use the engine though he was just pedaling...
Can you still ride with the engine off? Quote:
OH really?? I automatically assumed it was welded on cause I saw some one else say that. I do actually know how to weld I just don't know any one with one to borrow! lol! I might look into this...

Thats super neat dude! where'd you get the kit?
I'd never ride on something I'd have to build myself for my sake and the rest of the world wherever I might crash into haha. Does the motor ever get hot enough to burn your legs though?

motor gets plenty hot but ive never gotten burned while riding, only the one time when i went for a ride and immediately after thought it would be a good idea to wipe off a bit of oily shit from inbetween the cooling fins and accidentally touched the still hot muffler.
took off head gasket today, bit more compression now, and ultimately more speed and power. heres a video of the motor being assembled in china:
