Also been reading Tao Chien and Meng-haojan, old Chinese poets. Cool stuff, very Daoist/Zen Buddhist.

That was the last Thompson book I read. I love his collections of letters. There's one from the seventies, first chapter of 'Reaping the Whirlwind, Riding the Tiger' that details an episode where he eats a capsule of mescaline and amphetamine in a hotel room. Probably one of my favorite experience accounts ever.

The Razor's Edge by Somerset Maugham
A great book paralleling the pressures put on a young man to fit as a cog in society and his journey to find inner peace. Not quite done with it but i find it a great read, highly recommended.

Just read back through this thread, good to see lots of Gonzo fans!, to be expected really tho

x420's post has just reminded me that I really need to get hold of a copy of Aldous Huxley's Doors of Perception, according to many the best mescaline account ever written...

Recently read Crime & Punishment, The Stranger, and am now reading Chrinicle of a Death Foretold, all for a class. Pretty decent novels.

Never got much into Crime and Punishment. Someday.

But the Stranger was my introduction to Camus, only thing I've read by him. That book had a major effect on me when I read it. For all the lit I've read it stands alone in its own category.

Chronicle is good, too. I'd reccommend 100 Years of Solitude. That book took me a year and a half to finish (took a long break from it for awhile because it wasn't holding me) but when I finally did, it was one of the more rewarding moments of my life. Chronicle is different than his other works, but it's still Marquez. Great fucking writer.

Right now I'm reading a book called "Skældud" by Erik Sigsgaard.

The book is used in the education of teachers, or is meant to be such a book. It deals with the topic of verbally correction children. Very very interresting stuff indeed.

I know I never yell at kids anymore

i read catcher in the rye a month or so ago, its one of those books i always like to re-read because its so short yet so good. i reccomend any john grisham book...i read runaway jury like a year ago, and i think since then i've read all of his books except two. he writes some good stuff.

If you enjoyed The Catcher in the Rye, you also might enjoy The Perks of Being a Wallflower. That was my Amazon impression. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a good book though.
