this little gizmo relies on the same principle as the fabric softener tube. using a fabric softener tube with a joint is pointless, because half the joint burns while you're not inhaling, smoking up the room. this device traps the smoke, keeping the whole session much less pungent.
Materials: 2 film canisters (preferably the black ones with the grey lids) 1 of the lids 1 pen tube to use as a mouthpiece glue (I used superglue) tissues 2 rubber bands Step 1: Look at the bottom of one of the canisters. Cut a hole with a diameter of a little more than 1/2 inch in the center of the bottom. Step 2: take the OTHER canister and cut squares in the sides so that there are like 1/4 inch strips of plastic left holding the bottom to the top. the cutout squares should go almost all the way from the top to the bottom. Step 3: Glue the bottom of the FIRST canister to the top of the SECOND canister. You should have one continuous tube about 4 1/2 inches long. Note: When the glue is dry, you should wash the thing out for a few minutes. Make sure you don't use water soluble glue. Step 4: take the lid and cut a hole with a diameter slightly less than that of the mouthpiece right in the center of it. next, jam the mouthpiece into that. It should be a tight fit, giving you an airtight seal. Step 5: take a tissue and fold it in half. wrap it around the canisters so that it covers the holes you cut in the second canister. secure the tissues with the rubber bands. Your finished product should look like the stuff in the attached picture, except that I forgot to put the tissue on for the photo. When you're ready to light up, stick the mouth-end of the joint into the mouthpiece so that it will go inside the canisters when you put the lid on. Light the joint and put the lid on. The tissue around the cut out squares keeps smoke from getting out, but lets air get in when you take a hit. I don't think there's anything else left to say, but if if I left something off, or there's something you don't get, or you have a modification to make it work better, post it! Oh, and REMEMBER, there is no point in making this unless you ALSO use the fabric softener tube. My device only traps the smoke from the joint itself. Have fun!

thats fine with me if it gets moved. I just want as many people to see it as possible, so if you think that's the best place, go ahead.

^No he's not moving it...he's just also adding it to the FAQ so everyone who joins YaHooka will see this.
btw, FUCKING AWESOME! Seriously that is just genius. I've been smoking forever and I never would've thought of that. The only thing that ever bothered me about joints is the wasted smoke, so this is great. The only thing I would've done is use the white semi-clear film canisters instead of the black ones so you could see how much of the joint is smoked...but hey, you're the inventor. You may be new here but you sure ain't new to the bud. MAD PROPS!!!

wow, I'm liking all the postive feedback.
Anyone else tried making it so far?

Captain Cannabis-
The purpose of the device is for smoke NOT to leak out. Remember, you have to have the tissue around it for it to work it all. It would be completely useless without it. Or did you mean how much smoke escapes through the tissue? In that case, the answer would vary, depending on which type of tissue you were using and how tight you wrap the tissue around the canisters. I get a bit of leakage through the tissue, but it does help dramatically. I'm still experimenting with other filter materials too. I don't use fabric softening sheets because I don't want to be breathing in the chemicals they put in that shit. Feel free to experiment with whatever you think will work best, and let me know if something works out well.

i don't know, i am just guessing that at least a little bit of smoke would escape maybe the paper from an air filter on an engine?

Captain-
The tissues I'm using are porous, so I don't quite get what you mean. I'm kinda tired right now, so I guess I don't quite get what you mean. Thats a really good idea avout the engine filter though. I just used tissue because I know its safe to breathe though. I'll try it if I can get an engine filter. I don't want to use anything with a lot of chemicals though, and I don't know if that does or not. Jack- I've never had a problem with the tissues catching fire because I make sure the joint and the tube are aligned straight through the middle of the canisters. As long as there are a few millimeters between the burning end and the tissue, you should be fine. If you're really worried about it, to could put a round piece of cardboard on the end of the canisters to make some more space between the fire and the tissue, but I don't think its necessary.

^^^ Dude, I think its a good idea and its not like you HAVE to use crazyglue. he said to wash it out too
hell you dont even have to use a fuckin plastic pipe. he said if we had a modification to post it. an idea is to get the tissue wet so it might catch the smoke better and cool the smoke down, but i dont think the smoke is hot enough to melt the pen thing anyway. cause if you look at a lot of homemade pipe instructions they tell you to use one of those. cool idea i think. im gonna try it. |

the smoke reacts with the plastic regardless of whether or not it melts
perhaps a metal/glass alternative could be found.. anyone got a macguyver solution to that one?

Hmmm, I hadn't really thought about the whole plastic thing that much. Good thing I haven't used it a lot. If it's really something to worry about, maybe I could try making one out of a toilet paper tube instead of the film canisters and some rolled up cardboard for the pen tube. the problem is then how to get the rolled cardboard to stay there and how to make the whole thing airtight. I can't think right now, so if anyone has an idea how to do this I'd be grateful to hear it. Oh, and I think that iPot may have had a good idea there about getting the tissue damp. It probably would trap the smoke better.

^Or a metal (or glass) tube of some sort instead of plastic pen.
