I didn't even know you could do that.. I'm gonna be less around for the next 3 weeks prolly.. Not much IRC either I reckon...

And there is no signal to my monitor..

i was cleaning my comp., and decided to reformat my comp with my recovery partition that i made when i first got my comp


well, for some reason, it wouldnt update the registry files, and i got the error that you see down below.


yeah, i fucking shit myself!

Dude, I'ver never installed a harddrive before...

So i told the dude my specs.. Asked if there was anything i should be carefull off..

I try to install a SATA hd, with a on older hd.. the ones that use the IDE cable..

So.. after i turn it on, all ready plugged and shit. It makes that noice..

I've removed the new hd, sat everything back.. And it still makes that doomsday like noice..

i had that noise happen to me when i was trying to install some more RAM. i didn't press both ends down until they clicked into place, and when i turned it on, it made that freakishy awful noise and blue smoke came from the inside of the tower.

right then i knew i was fucked. had to buy another comp.

the high pitch is probably your power supply screaming to be replaced.


actually they can sound like screaming similar to the high pitch you'd hear before a tv goes out...............ca used by the high voltage generating circuitry. It sounds like it is the high frequency oscilator in the powersupply.


new supplies are readily available and reasonably priced.



could actually "be" the tv like thing (crt monitor) making the high pitched noise.(see explanation above). In which case ,replace it.................. ..they aren't worth repairing.

are you sure you didn't just confuse the crap out of your configuration file ?

disconnect monitor............. ((If this stops the squeeling ,the problem is in the monitor or the way it is configured.......... ....refresh rate ,resolution ,etc.))

also....disconnect new drive ,be sure 'old' connections are as they were before the new drive install attempt......includi ng drive jumpers ,master drive/drive 0 to primary ide connector etc.

cold boot................ .(power off for 30 seconds) not reset.



boot up.................. .............listen for beep................ ..beep ,beep ,beep.



It means/says no monitor. (see : bios beep codes)


If you still hear the noise without the monitor ,the problem may be in the pc's power supply.
