Butaning your weed

A friend of mine opened up my eyes to something I never gave any thought to. When people hold the flame over the weed not only are they lighting it with the flame they are unintentionally spraying butane all over the bud. Moreso, you also inhale some butane when there isn't enough weed there to burn. Hence that nasty taste. I was wondering if this is something to be midly worried about or is the ammount of butane so llittle that it doesn't have any ill effect on the bud or the body?

When I use a lighter I make a controlled effort to suck only the heat from the lighter onto the weed.

THC only needs heat to vaporise, not flame to burn.

^Si. I don't think it'll kill you, but doing as GH says is probably a good idea if you're concerned.

same exactly i suck the heat onto the weed, so i don't hit the damn butane.

fuck butane i was going to make a thread about butane lighters and smoking but this thread covers it.

Well, unless your holding the lighter at the bowl and then lighting it, I think you wouldnt inhale any butane. Butane is flamable right? So if its in a gaseaus(sp?) form any close flame would ignite it.

Matches also taste like shit when you light anything with them.

All you have to do is hold a lighter paralell to the bowl, so the lighter and bowl are both facing up.

Light the lighter, and inhale. The flame should be sucked up, and into the bowl.

I'm intrigued by the prospect of this lighter that burns oxidising butane.

if it burns all the oxidising butane then it wouldn't produce any nasty flavor when you hit an empty pipe

phedor($150) or better yet pay 1/10th of the price for a ceramic core soldering iron take off the metal around the heating element (no tools required) and you have a phedor there are some on ebay for $20 search for ceramic soldering iron
