Vista anyone?
Microsoft has probably invested a fortune to protect the system against piracy since none of the cracks and activation bypasses available on the net, work for longer than a few days.
It sucks and the crackers are going nuts by trying to find a way around the activation procedure. I had my copy validated and I managed to bypass the 30 days activation requirement with one of the cracks, but as soon as I downloaded an update from MS, the activation countdown started again and my "genuine" Vista was gone. Pain in the ass, I think I'm gonna wait a couple of months till hopefully a better crack appears, but Vista is IMHO vastly superior to XP. |

Alot of those cracks fail after updating your windows, same thing happened to me when I got a cracked XP once, thought I was clear of the 30 day thing, an then one day I'm no longer able to get past the log in screen. d:

Looks cool as shit, integrates with EVERYTHING (i dont have it btw, my friend does) you can practically turn your tv into your pc via an xbox 360, best network manager ever, runs fast, again it looks the shit. Has awesome spyware/antivirus stuff, which yeah in time stuff'll get around, but thats no different from any other antivirus/spyware tool.
And the 3d window scroll thing is awesome. Windows media center on the telly, via the 360.

Has there ever been software security that hasn't been cracked? I'm sure they'll figure it out. Everyone thought that teh 360 was unhackable till the firmware cracks came out. All it takes is one mistake in the code to exploit.

It was Splinter Cell Chaos Theory's copy protection scheme for the PC. The shit was so restrictive and stupid that it often told me to "please insert the splinter cell disk" when the store-bought, retail copy of SCCT was in the drive already. It had to do something retarded like scan every sector of the CD or something unbelievable like that. It also installs a hardware driver with extremely liberal permissions on your OS, and that sucks a fat one. I guess in all fairness I can't say that it hasn't been cracked at all. You can get around the protection scheme by physically disconnecting any CD or DVD devices in your computer, applying a special patch to the game, and having a disc image mounted using emulation software, which may or may not also have to be doing something special - it's been a while since I tried. I say "it hasn't been cracked" since there's no simple software-based solution to it. Interestingly, Starforce 3 was so completely stupid and drew so many complaints that Ubisoft dropped the protection scheme from all of their products shortly after SCCT. |

My friend tells me Vista makes windows XP feel like windows 98 and Vista has a much more advanced, modern feel. I should be getting it within the next few days.

I installed for the second time three days ago to try out some new cracks and after logging into XP three days after playing around with Vista, it felt dowdy and boring as fuck. Vista indeed runs much faster but you need at least 1Gb of DDR and a 2.4 GHz CPU. Also running Vista on older PC's can be a pain in the ass since older hardware can have major compatibility issues, you gotta have up-to-day graphics, sound and other devices. It looks pretty and you have far more options to customize the look and feel to you likings. It's got an improved firewall, a Windows Defender software, an anti-spyware and heaps of other new security features implemented like the UAC (User Account Control which is a bit annoying tho since it asks you ever fucking time if you really want to start an application or is the source trustworthy, but you can disable it or get used to it), all you need to add is an anti-virus software. The new search feature is a blast, you haven't even finished typing the things in you're looking for and Vista has already found it somewhere on your drive. The time where you had to restart your computer after installing new drivers and programs is also over. I also tried the speech recognition controls, you can do almost everything you usually do with your mouse, but it's more like for people with no hands. Last but not least, MCE makes your PC to HTPC so if you get a good graphic card and a digital HDTV card, you can say goodbye to all your set-top boxes, receivers, DVD recorders and home theatre systems. |

Vista may have the eye candy now but I hear it is a pain in the ass with DRM and scanning users drives to ensure their copy is legit, making you re-register every few months, auto-deleting software that MS scans and deems as being pirated. Talk about not trusting your customers, treating everyone like criminals - talk about BIG BROTHER. Not to mention the hand holding which can't be turned off - fun times!Oh, and the only shitty version (not) worth getting is $399! ![]() Have fun with Vista!
