extra brain for sale

having just finished my 2nd year of uni days ago i am left with absolutely nothing to apply myself too. i am not in good enough health to get a job at the moment. i have accomplished nothing in the past few days, which is pretty much what i expected of myself immediately after finishing.

i have no idea what i'm going to do this summer. i am thinking about taking classes in spring term (which starts may 7), but i may not even be well enough to do that.

either way i have about two weeks with absolutely fuck all on my schedule save for a couple errands that i have to run. i will probably clean my room and wait for my friends to get back in town.

any suggestions on focusing or otherwise distracting my mind? i have spent so much of my waking hours studying for the past month that i am probably experiencing psychological withdrawls.

You could help me pass linear programming, I'm probably dangerously close to failing it, the final is Thursday.

Edit: Woah, this was moved? Where are we now?

can you move it back? i enjoy the comforting umbrella of mellow stoners

my health unfortunately can't be helped by waiting or resting. i have a rare (lucky me) genetic condition that causes me to have vertigo and migraines. i can't really stand up for too long or do anything without being dizzy.

there is new treatment options that i have booked but my appt is in the latter half of may. right now i am on daily pain meds for the migraines and have to go to the hospital for IV steroid treatment every two weeks. the steroids make me manic and emotional (for lack of better phrasing).

i never took linear programming, so if i can learn it and teach it to you by thursday you may as well just learn it yourself.

it has kind of become routine and i am slowly learning to cope with it. i still have random bouts of hopelessness, but it is probably a side effect from all the drugs i am on attempting to stop the migraines.

it just kind of happened one day at work last summer (june 28th) and i haven't worked since. i haven't been able to take as many classes as i want and i haven't been able to do labs.

chances are i'm going to be living with this for the rest of my life, and that realization is starting to sink in.

anyway this post was supposed to be ranting about my unused brain power. i think i need an outlet for it. some kind of a project. no idea what though.

I have a contractor thats very similar to what you describe..

He took steroids for a little over a year.. they still can't seem to solve his problem.. I know there are several types of migraines..

I get migraines every once in a while from stress on my neck.. Some how it iritates the nerves going into my head..

I hope they get you fixed up soon.

migraines are incredibly complex to diagnose and treat. my main problem right now is the vertigo (which, for anyone who doesn't know, means that to me it feels like the room is spinning. this makes it really difficult to balance and also makes me queasy). the migraines are relatively under control with the combination of steroids and pain meds (compared to what they were with other drugs).

massages are good for your type of migraines. if you have health insurance a doctor should be able to prescribe you massages and have it be covered by your plan.

thanks for the support

Mine are treated with flexerile and neck massages.. the massage will actually stop the pain if i don't start having muscle spasms..

Maybe you need to study up on nerves, migraines and such.. Who knows, it may be your research on your spare time that finds a cure... You already have a good head start..

i had to take flexeril when i had neck spasm in november.

my area of study is more in the physics/math realm than the bio/neurology realm. i am probably better off waiting until my friend (who will be going into med) graduates from his program.

Maybe get involved with some sort of research project in the math department at the U, could be interesting and might help pass some time. I have no idea who you would talk to though.

i would have had to apply somewhere in the middle of the academic year. i was unsure about my health at the time, and i probably wouldn't be able to actually do it now anyway.
i have a couple friends who are doing the summer research thing. one of them even got his own office.

i'ma assume he meant empathize. anyway, do you like to read? if so, find a book that's long and challenging and read it. if you have a lot of sit time on your hands, nothing can really beat a good book. i recently tried Don Quixote but didn't make it to pg 50, but something like that might help. series are also really good, but you gotta be prepared and line up getting the next book before you finish the one you're on, or you have a time gap, and you just start thinking about the first chapter of the next book till you get it.

luckily, i've never suffered from migranes, but i have had a few cases of vertigo, and it sucks. smoke some green and watch the screen if all else fails.

Somehow I don't think 'War and Peace' is the answer, shit like that'll cause migraines all by themselves. Have you tried some of the less mainstream approaches to your symptoms? Things like acupuncture and aromatherapy, sense-dep, even deep meditation all potentially show some relief of symptoms (notice I dont say cure anywhere) with some people. The power of the mind augmented with a treatment can do powerful things. This isn't to say traditional medicine should be foregone with voodoo and witchcraft, but if voodoo and witchcraft do something for your pain and suffering without interfering with necessary treatments I say go for, if it works it works.

I would imagine research alone on what might work for you would take up at the very least the next two weeks, theres something positive already

its been about 10 months since my symptoms started and i've tried all the alternate treatments that were paid for by my insurance; accupuncture, chiropractor, naturopath, and all kinds of voodoo baloney.

cambrium, unfortunately i am too far advanced into physics and i could explain to you in painful mathematic detail why that isn't possible and never will be
