The Who, for sure. call it lame, but they were the first band i ever made that surefire connection with you know

but my musical taste goes far beyond that, and i've grown to have a lot of respect for what Nas does, among others.

and to round out the top three: Pavement, probably. or the Beatles. or bobby dylan. or....

Bob Dylan.

I used to hate him, but only because knew his work as the stereotype from Blonde on Blonde. Then my college roommate played "Hurricane" and I never looked back.

There are all sorts or reasons to like Dylan, but for me it's bacause no other artists is able to convey pain, bitterness, anger, and then love and hope all in a single line the way he can. Lines like:

You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,
And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,
And it makes me feel so sorry.

all said in the bitteress tone imaginable. Great stuff.

my favorite/band/artist group, i would assume is only ONE choice.

hard to say, but i think i'll go with incubus. their newer stuff is pretty disappointing but i've listened to them on and off for about 7 years now. the older stuff just makes me happy. reminds me of when i was younger and happier, i guess.

Throw Postal Service and Theivery Corp in there somewhere.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - I always related to Jimi, yeah yeah so does everyone else but this was the first music that "spoke" to me. Axis: Bold as Love cannot be beat imho. Excellent songs, performance and production. Also helped me think of what can be done with sound in a studio setting.

311 is my favorite band that plays today. Their live show is where it's at. Their music has helped me get through some rough times and I'm mega influenced by their guitarist, Tim Mahoney. The way they meld influences and inspirations into something of their own is something I really like.

There's a lot of other bands I love and rank right up with these guys but the reason I choose them is because I'm pretty much always in the mood to listen to them.
