What do you do when you've hit a wall?

And can't find anymore good music!?!? I've exhausted the majority of the genres and I'm not sure which way to go now. I know I haven't listened to all the good artists out there but it sure the fuck feels like it. About 5 years ago, when I was just beginning to dig, I would find a good band everywhere i looked. But now it's like a good indie single here and there but never a steady supply from a particular group/artist. Do I just have to wait for new ones or is there some way I'm overlooking outstanding artists?

Does anyone else feel like that? Like there's no more good artists to be discovered? And again I'm not just talking about two catchy singles from an artists I'm talkin about consistantly good albums, arrangements, lyrics.

Well, it all depends on what kind of music you like.

I hear ya.

There's far too much music out there to try and listen to it all, or even come close. But that's the good thing about music I guess, it can go on for virtually ever.

The only answer is to expand your horizons. Genres have their peak. Music evolves. You won't find music if you keep defining it by the music that preceded it because the name of the game with music is originality, and to be original you have to change.

Maybe you're looking for too much new music and not enough old. The well of music is so deep it's unlikely you could find the bottom.

I've found a lot of good music by reading interviews with artists I like and checking out what their influences and inspirations are. I trust musicians a lot more than I do critics.

SHOUTcast radio

Pandora

Last.FM

And about a hundred more...

Stop looking and just start listening.

Here's what you do:

Search a random word or phrase on some various music program. Download nearly everything you don't know and are curious to hear.

Repeat.

Not being able to find better music is impossible.

Maybe your ears are broken?

It is now time for you to start listening to the stuff you just can't seem to appreciate.

Seriously.

I know there's a lot of music I haven't heard but I believe I haven't heard this music for a reason. The cream of the crop seems to be easily accessable while all the subpar music sinks to the bottom. I keep hoping I'll run across some groundbreaking artists but usually if they truely are groundbreaking they'll be brought to light by the media. So I just don't know...

That post is exactly why you can't find new music.

That, anything good will show itself atittude..

Basicly if you are relying on something being pushed forward, you are relying on others people taste to define for you, before you go out and choose for yourself..

Well, no. I was just trying to say that most of the good artists are already popular and therefore easily accessable. And all the poor artists you need to search around for. Which is what I've been doing, trying to find a diamond in the rough but I usually come up empty handed.

And I'm disagreeing heavily, a band should never be judged on their success, but on how the music makes you feel..

I think I know what you mean, I just don't see why you call the popular artists good, and the not so popular, for poor..

step out of wal-mart and into the local record store..

the media will not lead you to good bands/music...

go to shows...at bars, not concerts

be the wolf, sheep

Take Artist A.

Listen to him, listen to his collaborations, listen to the people collaborated with.

Look at their influences, the people they listen to, anything new on the scene.

thats how I navigate myself through music.
