The plant will start it's flower cycle once the light cycle reaches a certain number of hours darkness, usually around 12 hours darkness. Which is why 12/12 is the "normal" light cycle to induce budding indoors.

Outdoors, a few more factors come into play, such as weather, but light is still the biggest. Outdoor plants may start budding before the natural light cycle reaches 12/12, which occurs in late September.

ok so i got plants that are like a foot tall they are outside in garden planted with no intent on transplant... waiting to kill males not sure when they show the plants are very obvious in the garden being most are a foot tall and very bushy so if anyone can get back there they will know.... but,

A) do i have to do anything to make my plants bud or just harvest in sept..?

B) when you start the 12 12 for bud how long do u do that.?

C)and i have 14 plants i only want like 4 tops so can i bud some early by putting bags over them and then harvesting earlier so i can hide that stuff better....?

thanks for ur help *this message brought to you by NooB-I-Am*
