hes clearly not paralyzed from the waist down, you can see him "popping" with his back foot (if you know how to skateboard, you'll know what I'm saying).

He might be really fucked up, but not paralyzed from the waist down.

^ man the only way you can get off the ground with the skateboard is to kick your damned back foot down and pop the tail of the board against the ground.

You can see him doing it in the first few scenes. That's not a shift in weight, that kid looks like he might weigh 80 pounds on a good day. It takes some amount of force to actually get yourself off the ground.
