I see nothing wrong with living away from people. Some can be rather hostile at times. Who wouldn't want to live out in nature growing your own stuff etc. I know I would.

Fresh air....hard work...keeping busy.

Going off the grid has nothing to do with living off the land, you can go off the grid anywhere. You're young Bearsy, you haven't started much of a paper trail yet so it's the perfect time.

Find a cash job, and rent a property from a landlord who doesn't mind cash. Or put it in a friend's name.

Just don't put your name on anything--no drivers' license, passport, property in your name, nothing. No job with a check means no IRS record.

going off the grid typically means generating and using your own electricity. i.e., you dont rely on the power grid and coal or whatever else generated power plants. doesnt have anything to do with taxes or not being traceable. it can mean you generate your own food supply, but not necessarily.

the 'grid' in

'off-the-grid'

refers to the electrical grid.

so when you are 'off' (generally meaning not a part of) the 'grid,' you are not using electrical power from the grid.

Being "off the grid" in terms of not consuming electricity, isnt exactly a groundbreaking achievement by any means, is it?

The general idea i think of, when i head OTG is someone living anonymously, with no links to the evil masterplannerz that are the government.

But if thats what off the grid means, just dont pay your power bill, mission accomplished.

you are in all likelihood consuming electricity, thats the thing. you generate it yourself. solar power, for example.

otg is not synonymous with that type of living (anonymous, etc.).

I always assume off the grid means taking yourself off of private or public energy grid and producing your own, presumably with renewable energy technology.

Exactly...

And I don't understand how I'm a "dirty hippie" cause I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on energy that I could get myself.

(And not having to answer to the government would be ok too I guess)

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

Don't forget sewers.

If you are off the power grid but still using the sewer system or a half assed septic tank (which the vast majority are), you're beat.

Youre being a dirty hippie because youre coming off as idealistic and not practical.

who needs sewers! When you live near a spring??!!?

I'm being unrealistic for fun, but i actually have 100 acres available of forest with a natural drinkable spring.
