Going off the grid
For the past few months I've been seriously contemplating just going off the grid completely, and I know it's probably a lot easier said than done.
Anyone have any experience with such a life choice?

I don't care about taxes, I don't even care if I stay here, I just want to live my own life, my own way without an imposing government telling me how to live, where to live, and when to live.
And by off the grid I mean self sustaining, living by myself, fuck modern life kinda thing.

To own land and be 'off the grid' is one of my life goals. Les Stroud is a good place to start.
p.s. I don't think your hydro bill pays for poor people, or is a tax at all. |

yea trying to improbe your environment and your future by having sustainable energy is totally something an annoying college hippie would want to do. but paying up the ass with increasing energy and oil costs is totally cool. awsome. good for you, you have a bright close-minded future.

I know a guy who is living off the grid now you might say. He was an anthropologist and now he does astrology and lives in the middle of nowhere, no t.v. using solar power, whatever. I'm just saying. he had to work alot of years, and be a cheapskate, to be able to liveoff the grid. Unless you are an outdoors enthusiast, which i guess wouldn't be too hard...well I guess it would be really hard.

its good the most progressive state in the country is full of smelly hippies, or else we wouldnt be the tenth largest economy in the world.
stupid environmentalists, championing ideas that will be common place among backwoods midwest idiots in a few decades. |

god.
stfu with your false dichotomy. you are bitching about others alleged bitching. am i bitching now? are you? to you, living off the grid means not having technology, which is not the case, and had you known even a little about the concept, youd probably know that. good job. |
