simply awesome. i just read it up to the science part. i like his narrative style, and his use of logic to deduce conclusions, that he admits probably arent true per say, but fun to explore nonetheless.

im going to share this if you dont mind

though the details of my delusions may differ now, I was distinctly reminded of my The unfolding of awareness thread. i will have to share this also.

Reading...

I like this part:

Quote:
“The best any human can do is to pick a delusion that
helps him get through the day. This is why people of different
religions can generally live in peace. At some level, we
all suspect that other people don’t believe their own religion
any more than we believe ours.”
Reminds me of the story of when the Buddhist Monk says to the Catholic Priest at a Religious Convention "My humble superstition is Buddhism, what is yours?"

Interestingly enough, it deals with every single topic I'm reading right now in a Deepak Chopra book called "The Book Of Secrets." The end result of both is simply probability vs. destiny. Good read nonetheless, but it felt a bit like a re-run because I've had this exact conversation many times.

Quote:
“You are always part of the universe, by definition. So
when your rocket goes beyond the current boundary, the
boundary moves with you. You become the outer edge for
that direction. But the universe is still a specific size, not
infinite.”

“Okay, the universe itself might be finite, but all the stuff
around it, the nothingness, that’s infinite, right?” I asked.
“It is meaningless to say you have an infinite supply of
nothing.”
“Yeah, I guess so. But let’s get back to the subject,” I
said. “How do you explain Zeno’s Paradox?”
Oddly enough, I've stated to many people through these conversations and topics when asked about the Universe's size and expansion, I've said that "The Universe occupies the same space and bounderies that it creates." Sounds like the Author was saying the same, but still trying to label the Universe as finite yet it's bounderies as Infinite. He suggests the "nothing" is really probability and thus he contradicts himself here to a degree...to have an Infinite amount of probability is better than having an Infinite amount of something deterministic. Semantics, though.

I disagree with the Free Will example, relating us to Pennies, as while there is a Head and Tails, there is also the gray area where it's not quite Heads and not quite Tails. He also states that both realities can't be true but that statement in itself is untrue due to it's assumptions.

Mostly, I found the read to be semantics and definitions, but I guess that's the idea. I do like the fact that it still keeps it all open-ended. I dig philosophy of any type, so I shall recommend this to others, as it's definitely another piece in the puzzle that is self-awareness.

If anyone really liked this read, I beg and plead for you to read this book:

Amazon.com: The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life (Chopra, Deepak): Books: Deepak Chopra

It addresses the same concepts more in depth on each particular subject, from the concepts of God to Free Will and gives you real world applications and techniques to actually bring it to something more than just a fleeting conversation and something applicable to your everyday life.

Edit - type-o's...
