RealClearPolitics - Election 2008 - Florida Republican Primary

so mccain is gonna win florida, even tho giuliana was counting on ny snowbirds to vote for him.

hes gonna win New Jersey - where he has gone from being 40 points BEHIND to 9 points IN THE LEAD....in 6 months.... thats 50 points difference in the polls....he will win this thought unwinnable state as well

and hes gonna win South carolina, garnering the military and pretty much just ever other decent person vote....

check out the latest polls .

its pretty interesting, and now we're getting to the point when we can start to talk about McCain VERSUS OBAMA or McCAIN VERSUS CLINTON ....

so the question is. does he have a chance at beating not just other gops but the dems as well....

he currently wins in the head to head polls versus hillary AND Obama....
but not by much.... its gonna be a close race for sure, (if mccain gets the nomination that is, if not, the gop is doomed).

do u think enough people like joe liberman (swing voting independents) care about the wolrd and our image in it to vote for the only candidate with any honor when it comes to the war in iraq or us troops ? i think mccain actually has a better chance of winning a gen elec than bush did in 00.... bush relied on conservatives to win, romney relies on conservatives now to stay afloat..... if mccain can get the gop etablishment to rally around him and recognize that its either him or hillary, i think he could win 60 percent of the popular vote .... mccains supporters are MODERATES.... the question is can he get the conservatives to give up something so they dont loose everything this time around....

Some Americans have tried to cling to the belief that support for McCain is somehow an anti-Clinton vote. That theory is hopelessly discredited by the fact that McCain is the darling of the mainstream media -- the same mainstream media that saved Clinton's hide. The same mainstream media that think you don't send enough of your paycheck to the federal government. John McCain thinks so, too. Tax cuts help only the "wealthy," McCain says. Of course they do -- the same way anti-discrimination laws help only the people being discriminated against.

The day after McCain's win in the New Hampshire primary, lobbyists for McCain were shaking down Wall Street firms for $100,000 apiece with this salutation: "Other Wall Street firms are now agreeing to commit to raise $100K for McCain in the next 10 days. Can we expect the same from (fill in name of company here)?" One banker told me it got to the point that he couldn't open his e-mail without another shakedown on behalf of McCain's Straight Talk Express.

But don't trouble yourself with facts that might cast doubt on Mr. Clean's probity; it's a new era. The more money-grubbing McCain is, the more it proves the urgent need to get money out of politics.

About a month ago, McCain said, "If I could think of a way constitutionally, I would ban negative ads." He has explained that his objection to campaign commercials is that they "are almost always negative attacks on a candidate and do little to further healthy political debate." That's an interesting summary of the First Amendment: free speech, as long as it's happy speech (or engaged in by the media, which is exempt from McCain's campaign finance reform). Why is it again that the Constitution protects dour communist rags denouncing running-dog lackeys of the capitalist system?

McCain steamrolled the Republican Senate into adopting yet more federal restrictions on gun ownership in the juvenile justice bill. His bold reformist policies in the Senate included his bill to raise taxes on cigarettes in order to fund a government re-education campaign.

Maybe you think you don't need to get exercised about politicians incessantly raising taxes on cigarettes, because you don't smoke. And maybe you don't personally want a gun and even think that it might be best if only the government were allowed to have guns. Perhaps you don't want to engage in political speech 60 days before an election anyway (a freedom McCain's campaign finance bill would have prohibited for any organizations other than government-certified political action committees and the media).

But you're probably not a communist either, and you understand that if the government can take away a communist's freedom to speak, it can take away your freedom to speak, too. Freedom is very simple: It means placing restrictions on what the government can do to us. Every time the government takes someone else's freedom, it increases the power of the government.

That’s why sneaky politicians do it one step at a time -- raising taxes on the objects no one will eagerly defend, like alcohol and tobacco, and then spending the money on new federal programs to help mothers and children. This used to be known as demagoguery. Now it’s known as John McCain. Welcome to the Congo.

i always wonder why people take vids like the family guy one and then add stupid shit to it to imo make it less scathing than it would have been just by itself.... like a deliberate attempt to make their viewpoint immature and foolish... this seems to be the case with a lot of the stuff i see from the "ron paul/9.11 truther/impeach bush" crowd.... its the same internet group that goes from issue to issue like paparazzi to entertain themselves or something, ... i find their legitimate criticisms are usually impossible to even observe thru the various stupid "shock value" stuff they include in their commentaries.... wit vs. being obnoxious is the difference that makes me value an opinion vs. not give it serious consideration as legitimate.

There’s a reason some of John McCain's conservative supporters avoid discussing his record. They want to talk about his personal story, his position on the surge, his supposed electability. But whenever the rest of his career comes up, the knee-jerk reply is to characterize the inquiries as attacks.

The McCain domestic record is a disaster. To say he fought spending, most particularly earmarks, is to nibble around the edges and miss the heart of the matter. For starters, consider:

McCain-Feingold — the most brazen frontal assault on political speech since Buckley v. Valeo.

McCain-Kennedy — the most far-reaching amnesty program in American history.

McCain-Lieberman — the most onerous and intrusive attack on American industry — through reporting, regulating, and taxing authority of greenhouse gases — in American history.

McCain-Kennedy-Edwards — the biggest boon to the trial bar since the tobacco settlement, under the rubric of a patients’ bill of rights.

McCain-Reimportantion of Drugs — a significant blow to pharmaceutical research and development, not to mention consumer safety (hey Rudy, pay attention, see link).

And McCain’s stated opposition to the Bush 2001 and 2003 tax cuts was largely based on socialist, class-warfare rhetoric — tax cuts for the rich, not for the middle class. The public record is full of these statements. Today, he recalls only his insistence on accompanying spending cuts.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, McCain was consistently hostile to American enterprise, from media and pharmaceutical companies to technology and energy companies.

McCain also led the Gang of 14, which prevented the Republican leadership in the Senate from mounting a rule change that would have ended the systematic use (actual and threatened) of the filibuster to prevent majority approval of judicial nominees.

And then there’s the McCain defense record.

His supporters point to essentially one policy strength, McCain’s early support for a surge and counterinsurgency. It has now evolved into McCain taking credit for forcing the president to adopt General David Petreaus’s strategy. Where’s the evidence to support such a claim?

Moreover, Iraq is an important battle in our war against the Islamo-fascist threat. But the war is a global war, and it most certainly includes the continental United States, which, after all, was struck on 9/11. How does McCain fare in that regard?

McCain-ACLU — the unprecedented granting of due-process rights to unlawful enemy combatants (terrorists).

McCain has repeatedly called for the immediate closing of Guantanamo Bay and the introduction of al-Qaeda terrorists into our own prisons — despite the legal rights they would immediately gain and the burdens of managing such a dangerous population.

While McCain proudly and repeatedly points to his battles with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who had to rebuild the U.S. military and fight a complex war, where was McCain in the lead-up to the war — when the military was being dangerously downsized by the Clinton administration and McCain’s friend, former Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen? Where was McCain when the CIA was in desperate need of attention? Also, McCain was apparently in the dark about al-Qaeda like most of Washington, despite a decade of warnings.

My fingers are crossed that at the next debate, either Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney will find a way to address McCain’s record. (Mike Huckabee won’t, as he is apparently in the tank for him.)

the more i thikn about it the more i think it was good for mccain to loose one state, bc now he works harder and doesnt take it for granted AND now people see that romney could actually win the nomination, which would be a joke.... and mccain doesnt have the "inevitable" aura about him that would make some people annoyed and have high expectations that he might not be able to meet. now mccains bar is lowered somewhat, which bodes well for him the long run.
