Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

do yourself a favor and get educated about this before you make statements that just aren't true. you have no reason to believe that the revenue from marijuana sales wouldn't help the economy, so why would you say it?

It's the largest cash crop because it's illegal. If it was legal, it wouldn't be much more expensive by weight than coffee, as it's easier to produce marijuana than import coffee. Legalized pot would not net very much revenue for our government. At least not enough to make a substantial difference.

A 2005 analysis by Harvard visiting professor Jeffrey Miron estimates that if the United States legalized marijuana, the country would save $7.7 billion in law enforcement costs and could generate as much as $6.2 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like alcohol or tobacco.
That's a budget surplus of over $13.9 billion annually. That's a substantial amount, would you not agree?
It might not fix our budget entirely, but it'll add money for education and other important facets of the economy.

it was the largest cash crop before it was illegal too. back in the day industrial hemp was one of this country's greatest natural resources. in fact, there were once federal laws on the books requiring american farmers to grow it (as recently as WW2). today, we lock people up for the same thing. it's not about revenue, it's about economic activity. adding a whole new sector to the economy would have effects that multiply over time.

If you really are against legalizing marijuana, you should watch the documentary, "The Union: The business behind getting high" actually everyone on this site should watch it. it is very well done, un biased, with a ton of information. its on youtube in like 11 different parts. it changed the way i thought about legalization.
