Thumbs up Michigan medical marijuana is here!!!!!

Michigan medical marijuana is here!!!!!
It's on the ballot this year, and all of us Michigan Marijuana users need to VOTE!!!!! Tell your friends, get out and vote YES on the proposal!!!! It's the first step, and our illustrious guvner Jenny GrandBone is against it, so you know it's a good idea!!! REMEMBER, don't cry about the laws if you don't do anything about them!!!! VOTE YES

State proposal for medical marijuana

The Michigan Coalition for Compassionate Care is seeking to legalize marijuana use for medical purposes in the state.

The state Board of Canvassers has approved petitions collected by the group, and the proposal is pending in the Legislature.

If the Legislature doesn't pass the proposal into law within 40 days, it will be placed on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

Leaders in the House and Senate have said legislative action on the initiative is unlikely. Gov. Jennifer Granholm said she opposes the proposal.
Getting high for health

Nearly 50 medical groups nationwide have announced their support of legalizing marijuana for medical use through a doctor's prescription, obtaining it through a doctor's recommendation or researching it as a treatment option.

Twenty-nine medical organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Medical Student Association and the American Preventive Medical Association, support allowing a doctor to prescribe marijuana to a patient.

Eight medical organizations support patients' access to marijuana with a doctor's recommendation, including the Florida Medical Association, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine.

Nine organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the British Medical Association, have issued statements supporting research of medical marijuana as a treatment option, and/or have published material supporting doctors' and patients' rights to discuss using marijuana and other treatment options.

Initiative

The proposal would allow for seriously ill patients, with approval of their primary-care physicians, to possess and use marijuana to treat their symptoms. The individual and his or her physician could not be criminally prosecuted.

Eligibility

Eligible would be those with a ``debilitating medical condition'' such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, glaucoma, hepatitis C and debilitating symptoms from other diseases. It's estimated about one-half of 1 percent of Michigan residents, between 40,000 and 50,000 people, would be eligible for medical marijuana use.

Requirements

At least 18 years old; must register with the Michigan Department of Community Health and carry a state-issued ID card indicating registration.

Penalties

Users who sell their marijuana would have their ID cards revoked and be guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to $2,000, in addition to other penalties.

Amount

A registered user could have up to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana at one time and cultivate up to 12 marijuana plants. The usable marijuana and plants would be kept in an enclosed, locked location.

Other cities, states

In Michigan, five cities -- Ann Arbor, Detroit, Ferndale, Flint and Traverse City -- have medical marijuana ordinances, while 14 states have a medical marijuana law. If voters pass the proposal, Michigan would become the first state in the Midwest to adopt such a law.

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

with all the layoffs....probably needed.

Yea ,My guess is that it would be pricy and hard to find.

Does the ballot include dispeneries, and protection from federal raids like Denver and California don't.

If not...boner.

You don't need to post the same thread in more than one section.

Either way.. God, I hope this passes.

No dispensaries, and you've gotta love contradicting state/federal laws eh?

I just couldn't resist. And besides, somebody might have missed it, 'cause they dropped their pipe or something. I've been campaigning like mad, and I take every opportunity I can! I just hope all the Michigan smokers out there realize the implications of this, it's one more step toward legalization.

Like I've said before, I can buy legal poison and get drunk, smoking government approved cancer sticks, but I can't use a natural herb? That, my friends, is true hypocrisy!

Unfortunately no. Once again, the Feds ignore that bit about "states governing themselves". You know, it's in that relatively ignored part of that document, what was it again, oh yeah, the freakin CONSTITUTION! They file that in the recycle bin, with other trivial things, like the Bill of Rights!

Well....

The law goes into effect Dec 4. Then, the Department of Health creates the guidelines ( NOT the lawmakers and other troublesome rabble! ). And yeah, I think anyone on any form of government medical plans is going to have a tough time getting a "recommendation" , because the doctors don't want to risk that cash flow. You know, I'm pretty sure there isn't a line in the Hippocratic Oath that says "CMOA, even if the patient needs or could use it." !
