8-month bump...

I'd like to revisit this thread. How many people here take psych meds and smoke pot? Do you find it increases your psychiatric symptoms that you're trying to get rid of by taking the meds?

i got prescribed prozac a while back, but it made me feel sketchy for the first 3 days so I never really took it again.

For about 3 months in highschool when alot of 'staples' in my life were falling apart, (parents divorced, grandfather died, and lost 3 friends in a car crash I was almost in, with in 2 months) I became really super angry and depressed. I went to see a GP and he said that this would take the edge off and help me come back to a place where I can think with my heart more than my head.

I will say it took me to a spot where I could just look at my life more and in the end it really helped me alot.

Paxil is what I was taking. Small dosage of the 3-4 'sizes' of med available.

I actually am off all psyche meds even though my psyche tells me that's a no-no.

I used to be on prozac, buspar, before that xanax, and before that clonazepam, I'm supposed to be on seroquel and something else but well, I just don't take em.

A nightly installment of cannabis either makes me crazier or more stable I'm not exactly sure. But it is something I enjoy and gives me something to look forward too.

No it isn't you idiot. My wording of the original post was stream of consciousness writing, but meds in conjunction with recreational drugs (and alcohol) is almost never addressed by peoples' shrinks.

Here is what I should have said:

If you take psych meds and smoke pot at the same time, and you notice some bizarre behavior, or others have pointed it out, you need to understand that these drugs don't mix with everyone well. This combination might be causing that behavior. It's like mixing soup in the brain. Talk to your shrink and be honest! They aren't cops. Tell them what street drugs you take.

And why would most shrinks not look at the combined affects of psychotic drugs mixed with recreationals?? Its a common occurance that peeps combine them and they're very similar alot of the times.

I dont even know what this post is about. I dont take any psych meds anymore. THeyre awful. But for a long time I was on depakote (valproate), seroquel, zoloft and flurazapam and smoked tons of pot.

Chances are, you don't even realize how much it is affecting you. I didn't until I stopped taking the meds and realized my high was much more predictable. The high itself is less pleasureable, but overall you will be better off.

Personally, I hate psych meds and I'm glad I got off them when I did, regretting ever taking them. My psychiatrist even said I would be better off not taking my meds if I continued to smoke pot. I eventually took her advice, and like I said, tell your doctor that you smoke or fucking stop smoking right now!!!!!

I told my psych doctor several times. He did not respond by telling me to stop smoking. He did say that he does not make moral judgements and left it at that. So I'm assuming that this highly recommended psych does not feel that mj is something to be concerned about for most people who are prescribed most meds.
