The grand plan
I think a long term outlook for anyone is a good plan. Granted, I try to stay alive on a day to day basis, but i do have a plan.
It seems my peers in the army have somewhat considered me an "individual" or a "wanna be college boy" or whatever.... So anyways, I have laid out a grand plan for what the fuck i'm going to do. I want some imput. Maybe some idea. Okay, So I will be getting the fuck out of the army officially on July 18th, 2011. I will be taking a month of terminal leave, which will make it around June 15th, 2011. I will be back from Iraq sometime in March. That leaves me with a year and some change to chill back in El paso. So, I am saving up a chunk of change to enrole in a Russian as a second language program so I can go live in the middle of a russian city called N. Novogorad, and study russian in an immersion program. I will do that for one year. After that, I will go to a western European country and use my G.I. bill to get my bachelors degree knocked out, In Russian with a minor in probably German (which I already have credits in)... The second language depends on my location. I might have to go to a stateside college and enroll in their oversees program so my GI bill will cover it. Whats covering the Housing? the GI bill will pay for my apartment. So anyways, This shit brings me to about age 27-28, I will be fluent in two different languages, well traveled with work experience. I am not to concerned about a job after that. Maybe the peace corps, maybe some type of NGO, I don't really look that far ahead. But what do you think? It's a wild ride, but i like it that way. I plan on chilling out in europe for a while... Why not? I am tired of the American Dream...I'm going to live the European Reality

i guess you haven't factored in what will happen when the government makes you stay there longer than 2011.

Good luck man. That sounds like a pretty fun plan.
Think about work afterward. A lot of companies hire only ex military, and being in the Army will be a one up to getting hired at a lot of places. Majoring in a language sounds like fun, but consider what you can do with that. My brother is doing Army ROTC, majoring in German, and I don't think that is going to open many doors for him (besides going to Germany). I could be wrong, because I don't know a lot about that. You still in Iraq dude?

I would advise against majoring in languages, unless you want to work for the government. Get a skill you can actually parlay into some material well-being, like computer science. Now, I know life isn't all about money, but trust me on this, the more valuable your skills, the less likely you are to end up a cubicle drone in The Man's money machine later on.
