I can see how relieving muscle tension or something makes sense.

But reducing drug cravings and imposing relaxation is idiotic.... I mean why not just smoke weed

Expectancy of life...definitely. Quality...debatable.

I think that being proactive in trying to find outcomes in life generally add to the quality of it, if you are getting benifit, even if its just a placebo, or meanial task. Often it only takes on theropy session for people to feel their life turn around, and there aren't certainly much theory laid forth to a person in one session. They are just getting their story out, not getting any tools to cope, other than the one they are already using , which making a choice to activly persue health. One conversation certainly isn't much stronger than a placebo, but can still change lives in qualitative ways, which lead to better expectancy outcomes.

Personally, I think all forms of medicine are important. If my arm is falling off, I don't think acupuncture is going to be the remedy. But I know, now from personal experience, that 'conventional' medicine is not the only nor the most effective form of treatment, just the most accepted and used. What I find awesome about Chinese medicine is that doctors were compensated to maintain health, not treat sickness.

I agree. Even modern medicine can be considered placebo because we all truly accept modern medicine to work. We affect the body with our conventional methods because all people going into the E.R. actually think the E.R. is going to do something to heal them, from drips to injections. Same could be even said for all science, especially quantum physics (which evidence is pointing to), but that's a whole other discussion. All of life is just a placebo waiting for you to believe in something.

My wife was incharge of research into why immigrants weren't acessing healthcare here in Canada. To the funders suprise she found that most answers where based in Eastern "disbelief in Western medicines ways, and didn't holistically approach problems, but merely symptoms."

Kind of an opposite take from the opinion laid for about their "hocus pocus"
