Guess I'm a purist but I think this would drive me nuts.
I'm also for vinyl mixing instead of the digital deals, go figure. Something to be said for tangibility I guess. |

There's got to be some way to hack drm'd ebooks.. Most drm's have been hacked, have they not? Anyways these ebooks look cool and futuristic... On that Jetsons tip.

taking out the drm seems like it would be easy...just 'scan' the pages and run an ocr over them.

... huh? you do realize there's nothing to be scanned here right?
this is all intangible information being displayed on a small thing which i guess resembles a book. which i don't think would scan at all or very well... wtf?

thats why i put scan in the little mini quotes.
its kind of like how you can unlock itunes drmed music by 'listening' to it really fast with itunes and recording the output. If the file is on a computer then you can scan by screenshotting, although more likely it would jsut be handled behind the scenes. if its on one of those devices im sure theres a way you could just do a flash dump onto a computer (although it might require some soldering/knowing what your doing)

By the way, it doesnt resemble a book. Its more like an etch-a-sketch both in form and function. easier on the eyes i've been told.

i dunno i dont think that the books are displayed as images, and to convert (by hand, i suppose) images to ebook files would take ages.
I would also assume that the ebooks only accept a proprietary file format, the ones I've looked at seem to have the feature of downloading ebooks via wifi or internet or something, so... im just theorizing really.

I was lookin up on this thing called the 'kindle 2' and it looks pretty awesome. its as thinner than a magazine, can hold thousands of books, battery lasts days, or weeks with the wireless off and it has built in wifi so you can instantly download newspapers/magazines/books instantly. it costs about 400$.... Thinking about buying one, but the books are like 10 bucks. shit they should be free if you spent 400 fucking dollars on the damn thing.. It's weird though because just recently I've started to read books.. Reading never interested me until AFTER high school.. In school I would never read, literally..ever, I despised it . For school book reports, I would either download the entire report online, or do a report on a book that had a movie to it and watch the movie lol. I probably read about 3 full books all throughout high school..pretty sad huh.. wish i wasn't so fucking add and uninterested in everything.. wasted a lot of time slacking. but anyway here's this awesome little book reading thing- Amazon.com: Kindle 2: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation): Kindle Store

naw, it's nothing at all like reading from a computer screen. It actually has a natural looking, paper-like screen that uses "electronic-ink display technology" with the appearance and readability of printed paper. It reflects light like paper, and uses no backlighting, eliminating all glare. The text actually almost looks BETTER than an ordinary book. Plus with a book you have to hold it open and stuff.. that sucks

yeah, i think i would still like an ordinary paper book better, but that thing would be handy, and nice to have. did not know there was an ebook thread.
