I try to discuss....but....

My voice gets louder when I am being ignored by those who should be paying attention to me.

When I'm trying to discuss something and the other person won't shut up and give me a turn to talk.

You don't 'win' an argument by yelling. The other person just shuts up because it ain't worth the trouble.

Here's what I do: When the other person starts getting louder, you get softer. Tones of voices are contagious. Pretty soon the other dude is saying, "why we whispering?" It really works (at least with grown ups).

I don't really need to yell much anymore. Not since I got rid of that LOUSY, NO GOOD, DRUNKEN, EX-HUSBAND OF MINE. Was I yelling? Sorry. I guess I yell when I'm very mad as well.

I enjoy talking when someone is yelling. Those who yell seem to flip out when you don't get involved or escalate the scene with them. My Dad gave me alot of practice with the ability to look blankly at a yeller. Usually when you're yelling you really aren't formulating much of an arguement, as opposed to sitting there and listening.

When I was younger, I loved to argue. I took pride in the fact that I could win and I didn't even have to be right. I found, though, that other people weren't as impressed with me as I was, and since it never gained me anything, I gave up arguing. Now, when people start in with the verbal sparring tactics, I just drop it and go do something else.

Besides, when you put together a great and convincing argument, and deliver it eloquently with the skill of a master rhetoritician, and as you do so, you realize the other guy is just standing there, waiting for his turn to talk instead of listening, you know then and forever that that time and effort would have been better spent perusing the Hot Picture Thread.
