The captain from whale wars is a douchebag, but I still kind of respect him.
Captain Paul Watson is a total asshole. He sends his crew out in stupid situations in tiny inflatable boats, then gets pissed when they get lost in the fog. He definately faked getting shot at the end of the last season and his first mate Peter Brown is completely incompetent.
That said it seems like he treats the whole thing as a game, which I can definately appreciate. Anyone who can actually go f* up Japanese whalers and seem like he's having such a good time while he's doing it is doing something right. Basically, I would gladly join the crew, but would probably get kicked off for lack of respect or something. oh, also Potsy pretty much rocks. |

nah I think he just lays around in front of the TV and drinks beers when he's not at sea. The second mate, Hammarstead I think goes around and stops sting ray hunts and seal clubbings and stuff. He seems like kind of a dick but incredibly competent.

you ever seen the episode of I think it was nature, one of the documentary PBS shows, about the killer whales and the humans working together to hunt bigger whales in Eden, Australia? It's pretty amazing.

i passed it on my satellite the other night.. thought it was going to be like Jurassic Fight Club, which is dope-- they pit 2 dinos from a certain period against eachother, and get a bunch of archaeologists and other experts together to recreate what would've happened as realistically as possible. pretty dope..
then i saw the description for whale wars, and was like "EFFFFF this! I'm not watching some granola-crunchers trying to save some whales.."

The fuck? They have a fleet of 7-something boats, and considering they haven't really made any difference in the number of whales taken from the sea, they are doing more harm than good.

I say this every time some one mentions this show.
Paul Watson is an ass who almost tries to get his crew killed on every mission and should be stripped of his captain's license and made to live in North Dakota just to ensure the safety of the rest of the nautical world, whales included. |

Whether or not his tactis are smart, the cause is noble imo.
There was an international law passed banning the cultivation of whales, and yet the Japanese continue to do so, pretending its for research. You don't need to kill that many whales for research, you don't need to kill them at all, or slaughter them the way you do.

I don't agree. You could tell it was purely VOLUNTEER ONLY. They even said it was volunteers. It's quite obvious that he didn't actually make any one do anything they didn't want to.
The people are there for 1) their belief in saving the whales(which I bet more than half of them are willing to risk their own lives to try to save whales lives; hence them being there in the first place). and 2) they want to make the show interesting/have to. |

I've decided that he's gonna go the way of Timothy Treadwell. I just hope the cameras are there when he gets ate, only having the audio from Treadwell was very dissappointing.
