dam "going home" does not feel as good as it used to
so i just got home from a week in New York visiting for a wedding. I used to love going to new york and being with my big Italian family. A big part of my growing up was knowing that i have that strong family backround. it just seems that every time i go there its just more and more bad news about people in my family. this one is hooked on pills that one is being investigated by the feds this ones heart is going. ugh i dont even want to go back anymore. even my old town, i used to know everyone who lived on my grandmothers street. now the whole fucking town is made up of those jewish people with the long beards and the two curls hanging down the boys heads. home doesnt feel like home anymore at all.

That's too bad. You must feel kind of lonely going back to your home town but it's moved on/not the same.

im always worried that this would happen if I were to leave my town.. I mean, I think its going to happen eventually, but at least if its gradual ill be able to deal with it better; not leave for three years and when I come back, nobody is around anymore. Its hard. I just try to keep in touch with my good friends from the block and hope things dont change to drastically.

in all honesty though, even us normal jews [non-kosher jews and semi-kosher jews who still drive and watch tv on the weekends and shit.. ie. those of us who are ethnically jewish, but don't really practice] make fun of the hamyshe, haredi, hassidic jews and the like. they do some whack shit, but are good people.

Going back to where I used to live would probably make me feel home even if none of my family was there.
I do get homesick though, and I have no idea why(more location sick more than anything else haha).

i feel this for sure, it seems like life gets more and more fucked up as the years pass. I know that sounds pessimistic, I think it might be because alot of parents try to shelter kids from the reality of whatis going on with the fam but... yo i feel this. i know where you're coming from. and it does suck.

on a somewhat related note, my family occasionaly goes back to the bronx where my moms italian side of family grew up. arthur ave, its still famous for having amazing italian food/markets/oldskool shit.
except back in the day it was all mafia run, no crime and everything was italian run, and now its just the hood. the stores are still nice but if you step off arthur ave your in a hispanic/black ghetto. we went to the store my grandma's father used to have a candy shop and it was some broken down appliance store and i felt like everyone was staring at my family like we were some privileged ass crackers, everything is locked up and cars have smashed windows and everything has graffiti, its just weird how the place changed from what it was back in the day to essentially a ghetto where everyone is poor and doesnt give a fuck about "back in the day"
