Los Angeles Hotels?

I wanna book a vacation to LA for a week but I'm not sure which hotels are good. I don't wanna end up in some scary neighborhood where I might get robbed or shot...any advice from the natives?

i stayed here

Highland Gardens Hotel

janis joplin died there. its a cool place, nice pool, and cheap. its also a block away from sunset blvd and a bunch of cool bars and stuff.

if you have the cash for a nicer place and a nice rental vehicle, i suggest staying somewhere outside of Downtown L.A., like Thousand Oaks, Aguora Hills, or something like that(definately not the Valley though)

You will appreciate it being a lot safer, and quieter. YOu will have to drive into L.A. but its worth it imo. You can get to the PCH from Aguora and drive down it to get to, really explore L.A. and surrounding areas

edit: Slapstick, i didn't know anyone here was in Cruces? whereat in Cruces? I lived there when i was in school

i claim NO knowledge of LA besides the area that we hoteled at. which was pretty cool. we had no money to get cabs so the furthest we went was on a bus to Santa Cruz

This is very true, Lancaster is considered L.A. and thats a two hour drive for me, living right next to The Orange Curtain and there is still about thirty five miles of Los Angeles between me and the water.

i went to LA once

I got on a bus to disney land and a drunk hasseled me for 50 cents to, what he claimed, was for cheeseburgers at mcdonalds. but fucking shit knows that he was gonna go score probably a hit of smack from his smack dealer downtown. I got off the bus a stop early and ran into a couple blacks trying to sell me crack and heroin.. i got sold good crack and fake heroin. lost the crack getting a beer at the bar, got hasseled for more money by bums looking for liqour, then got stopped by a group of minorities thinking i was a local and knew the are. but from broken english to smelly pants i could fucking tell them shit from shit.
