to be honest, that's probably pretty arguable.

For some one like my parents, having a HUGE garden assortment of foods and herbs, raccoons are just as much of a pest as as fly or even fruit fly.

To measure which one values their life more is arguable. You do have a point, there's more flys than raccoons, but they still have a place int he ecosystem and killing one or two reoccurring raccoons is NOT a big deal.

You own a cat right? You buy it cat food right? You're probably doing more to the ecosystem just by owning a completely non-productive cat than the raccoon ever did or does in a good way.

they are called Varmints for a reason.

Vermin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Vermin (in some dialect regions, Varmint[1] or Varmit) is a term applied to various animal species regarded as pests or nuisances and especially to those associated with the carrying of disease. Since the term is defined in relation to human activities, which species are included will vary from area to area and even person to person. The term itself derives from the Latin vermis, meaning worm, and originally had reference to the vermiform larvae of certain insects, many of which infest foodstuffs.[2] The term 'Varmint' dates as early as the first half of the sixteenth century (ca. 1530-1540s)[3].

The issue is why kill if you don't have to.

Are you human? Do you buy food? You're probably doing more to the ecosystem just by being completely non-productive than the raccoon ever did or does in a good way.

What makes you say he's non-productive.
What did he do to the ecosystem?

are you suggesting I should kill myself? I wasn't exactly suggesting you should kill your cat, just to clear things up.

edit: I said that because I know hunters who kill straw cats upon sight.

You're valuing your life over the fly/cat, aren't you?

yea because I have a fucking job and I can defend myself(unlike flies and cats). valuing your life isn't measured in personal opinion, it's measured in aptitude(ie defending yourself from your species natural predators).

technically, the only "real" predator of humans today would be other humans. and if you say "well, lions and tigers and bears oh my!" could be our predators, well, pit a human against a lion. who's gonna win? i dont mean pit a human with a tool like a gun or a knife against a lion, i mean animal vs. animal, period.

my money is on the lion.

au contraire mon ami, the raccoon is causing a nuisance by destroying kishar's herb garden. Having disease carrying animals fucking with your edibles is not healthy, just like having rat droppings in your cheerios is not healthy.

So it's the death fault for being a raccoon?

Not every place has to be infested, because guess what, people have a little more forethought before it becomes a pestilence.

most of the urban raccoon population carries rabies AND a dozen or so other human-transferable pathogens.

nevermind the cost of repairing damage done to property and homes by "denning".

raccoons are a blight on most communities.
