I appreciate your stance on this but I strongly disagree.

Even without statistics to support myself, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that at any given moment, there has been at least one radio station somewhere on this planet playing a Michael Jackson song. Not only since his death, but in all the days and years before, too. There isn't a long list of entertainers that share the same accolade. 13 Grammys, 13 #1 singles, and 750,000 records sold, all before his death.
Even if he never did anything musically again, those accomplishments are out of reach for many in the music business, past, present, and future.

Michael Jackson=The Wayne Gretzky of Entertainment

Sha-mon, he's bad.

history and invincible were arguably his two least successful albums, so I would say he dropped off in the early nineties, if not earlier.

that is what I mean. I dont mean to take away from the fact that he was a great musician, and a wonderful live performer.

Hey man, we disagree, that's all. My replies are just that, replies. I'm not trying to defeat your opinion.

HISTory did 20 million, so yea, compared to other albums it was 'light' in sales. Invincible, was doomed because MJ pursued an investigation regarding a conflict of interest between his attorney and Sony whom the attorney also represented. He informed Sony he was leaving, and Sony in turn cancelled any release of singles, all video shoots, and any promotion. Was the Invincible album as good as Thriller? I don't think so, but it likely would of done better with promotion and a tour.

If nothing else, he raised the bar of success so incredibly high, that I have a hard time believing I will see anyone else reach it in my lifetime.

I pretty much agree with hyper's viewpoint on this, but I'll also add the tour was coming 8 years after his last album and when his $400 million debt was becoming a problem.

The last the majority of people (generally/relatively younger generations) even heard of Micheal Jackson was either when he dangled his child out of a window or South Park, so I'm pretty sure his musical career WAS all but over save for this tour.

Now, I won't deny his contributions to the entertainment industry and current music influence (that would be downright ignorant), but I also won't deny that the latter half of his life was plagued with career-tainting bollocks (no matter what really happened) that became all that people associated him with.

This media circus (the very media that coined 'Wacko Jacko'!) surrounding this is truely remarkable, but who can blame them for wanting easy ratings?

I'm surprised there isn't more focus on the fact that his fucking FATHER proved yet again that he clearly could give two shits about his son, and was let off the hook as easy as he was.

Actually, I'm not surprised. Micheal stopped being viewed as a human being and simply as an entertainer from a very early age, and in the end, that is what killed him.
