The West No Longer the Best?

Listing of best to worst economies in the world:

2009 GDP Growth
China 7.5
India 5.4
Middle East 2.0
Africa 1.8
Brazil -1.3
World total -1.4
Canada -2.3
U.S. -2.6
France -3.0
Spain -4.0
U.K. -4.2
European Union -4.7
Central/Eastern Europe -5.0
Italy -5.1
Japan -6.0
Germany -6.2
Russia -6.5
Mexico -7.3

Source

It's kinda looking like the old hegemony is making way for something new. The top worl economies are now some of the countries that were considered the world's poorest nations. Shit, even Africa is kicking our ass!

I think the word "Pwned!!" doesn't do this justice.

cool maybe the canadian dollar will skyrocket in value?

when is the american economy expected to rebound? i heard on the radio the other day that the canadian economy will not be where it was projected to be before the economic depression for another ~10 years.

when you have nothing and you grow 10% you still have nothing. When you have everything and grow 0% you still have everything.

Extremes obviously, but a point to be made.

a few points.

our economy is already DEVELOPED, so the idea that we could have the same growth as china and india which still has billions of people to feed and clothe let alone house and educate is misplaced....they have to use their funds to do those things- we for the most part have that stuff taken care of- our infrastructure is in place, roads schools hospitals etc.... ours may be old, but chinas are non-existant.

another thing- america has 5% of the worlds population but thanks to free trade and open borders we have a market of 8 billion people for mcdonalds, ford, gm, boeing etc....

the fact that the world is getting richer simply means that more people will be able to afford our shit.

by the time it all evens out china will have to worry about things like the disparity between rich and poor and taxes and healthcare benefits and all the same things western developed countries worry about- getting from one level to another only means that you have a new set of problems to deal with .

You may be right, but I still think the idea that Africa is kicking our ass is cooler, so I'm going to stick with that.

yep.

Also notice that the top growing economies in that list are large resource exporters, which are still needed during depressions, and/or they have enormous populations with cheap labour.
