One story that sounds exaggerated but really IS true is that no one has ever overdosed on Marijuana. Or, as my daughter once put it, "You can smoke yourself retarded, but you can't smoke yourself dead"

Yes, and smoking pot is safer than either smoking cigarettes OR drinking alcohol. There are many GOOD and TRUE arguments in favor of marijuana, there is no need to rely on falsehoods and half-truths.

I thought this thread would be about such things as;

"I swear to you that it's 5 grams"
"This is the best shit ever, but I can give it to you at a special price"
"It's Daddy's special tabacco, now don't ask questions and go tidy your room."

etc

I thought that it would be witty.

^ oldman, do you take these "lies", or what i would assume would be a better term for it, "misinformation" , personally? i can understand correcting a falsehood, but what's the point in getting touchy over it? most of these "lies" are due to ppl who heard things that seemed logical, but turns out wrong. it's good to perpetuate the truth, but pointless to get all bent out of shape over it.

Lies is a strong word, but it does get people's attention.

Myths would be a more accurate word.

like that pot was a part of the boghavat gita (lol sp?) and has been used in hindu and indian culture for thousands of years...

and that a law in jamestown in 1607 required farmers to grow hemp.

So, it's a lie if he can't produce a ref?

Do we have to have references and proof to believe something true?

Is truth relative?

When it refers to a book, yea. Especially when I comes from the Bible, the most studied document in the history of the planet. Like most books, it is made of words, among then "calamus" found in the Old Testament, which may or may not refer to cannabis, depending if you are reading the comments of a linguist or a theologian with an ax to grind.

I am a materialist, and so a practical matter believe that physical truth is objective. The world of ideas (words), however, is a slippery, subjective mess. That being said, words can be corralled into fairly narrow meanings based on context and general usage. Or, going back to the original question of Christ using cannabis based on the words written in the Bible, I doubt it.

It's not that it was written on hemp, but all the founding fathers were stoned when they wrote it...

the biggest myth propagated by potheads is that dro is a strain. it is NOT a strain, it's a CROSS between g-13 and ben franklin's fabled crop.

Here are two liars...

Hemp Car

Welcome to Jack Herer's Home on the Web!

This one will pay you $100.000 to prove him wrong. Of course, he is lying about that also.

No one here is attacking any of Jack Herer's core factual claims about the uses of hemp.

I run across this one all the time:

"President Franklin Pierce wrote to his family that it was "about the only good thing" about that war"

I WANT to believe this. But as of yet, I have not been able to find a source. Any help?
