Went to a Vegan restaurant for dinner... and survived.
Sooo my ex came up for a surprise visit this afternoon. She's a vegan now, so we went to a vegan place for dinner. Of course, i was extremely skeptical [and still am concerning how it will come out of me..]
I'm not saying it was the most awesomest meal of life or anything, but I did survive.. Don't get the jitters, get the soy fritters. those things were BOMB.. especially when dipped in the sauce for the spicy eggplant [vegan place we hit was owned by these cantonese women, so it had some familiar-ish stuff to me, just vegan'd up (or down??)]. mmmm.. still though, i had to grab some meat on the way home.. so i went to my dumpling house and gots me a dozen pork & shrimp dumplings. ommm nom nom.. just about to go nom on them.. hahaha-- like on our way there, i was like, "I'm going to HAVE to get some meat in me... like when i get home, i'll cook a chicken boob or something and eat it with my bare hands." and although i was satisfied/full after the meal, a man need his meats. [sorry myx, love you. friends still??] so anyway, feel free to log any vegan experiences or attitudes here.

I tried to eat vegetarian last year. I kept at it pretty good, pretty much got off fleisch dependence. But I did absolutely no planning for it, and I was smoking a lot of tar, and I ended up losing thirty pounds over the course of nine months or so.
Ate at a vegan place in SF, in Chinatown. Dericious shtuff. Wheat puffs, hehe. I don't know, there's definitely a correlation between the quality of the food you eat and how you feel after consuming it. But eating consciously isn't easy at all, and it's expensive, too, for the most part. I'd be down to try and eliminate certain things in my life again in the future, but I want to be able to do so comfortably, in a manner of speaking. I mean, shit, I was off fast food completely, got back on it this summer, it's fucking scary how addictive high fat/processed food is.

Hahaha I got a mention.
Being a vegetarian for like 5 or more years now and having dated another vegetarian for a good couple years I've had my fair share of vegan food, be it restaurant or otherwise. As with any other cuisine it's all in who and how it's prepared. It can be delicious and it can be disgusting. Generally though at least from my experience you'll be quite surprised and satiated. Also eating vegetarian/vegan is generally cheaper than meat if you're considering staples and such. It's when you start delving into organics and meat analogues that shit gets pricey.

I dunno, sustainability seems intrinsic to the whole vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, and you fucking pay for it, don't try to tell me otherwise yo. As a generation we're going to have to sacrifice a lot of money to affect any serious change in people's consumption habits, and not just in what they feed themselves. I'm broke and unemployed, have been for months. I know I couldn't sell me on paying more for my health (and everyone else's, and the planet's) right now.

^ Haha, nicely done. I thought about commenting on it from how ridiculous a concept it was rather than how gay it sounded.

I'm not denying that I worry about sustainability, nor am I saying that I don't sometimes go out of my way to purchase items that are better in that regard, or pay more for said items. I'm saying that as a general rule veg eating doesn't get expensive and certainly not more expensive than a meat based diet until you start branching out into fake meats and processed foods. I'm pretty much in the same boat with work only coming in real sparingly. I will admit I don't eat as nicely as I'd like in regards to some things, but I've yet to compromise my ethics or generally healthy eating with the exception of the lady forcing me to eat cookies or candy. Oh and the booze, but that's so ridiculously low these days and I still maintain a little poison is good for the soul.

i'm all for trying new stuffs, so that's not the problem. i just don't dig it when they think that stuff can't be healthy and taste good and just throw things together based on the nutrients and shit and not taste whereas this was like spicy garlic eggplant that you'd get in any canto place, just vegan. and the soy fritters... ohhhh the soy fritters... like i said, don't get the jitters, get dems efffing fritters.

The demand for soy is such that the amount of unsustainable growing is only increasing.
This problem extends beyond just soy production of course. So any vegetarians that buy their shit in grocery stores and NOT from a local farmers market or something are just exacerbating the problem. Same goes for fucking meat eaters. Well anyway, don't say you're doing it for the planet you lazy fuck if that's what you're saying. LAZY FUCK
