I'm going to be a daddy.
the #krew knows so i figured i'd share with YaHooka as well. I'm going to be having a baby. My girl is about 3.5 week pregnant and the due date is projected to be May 27th, 2010. The families are supportive and we're both really really happy.
So give me some of that fatherly advice and such. I have no idea what to do with a baby! Also, I can get high but can she? She's been feeling pretty nauseous and I don't think there's much she can take. I haven't changed a diaper since i was baby sitting cousins like 10 years ago. I am so freaked out and excited. so much to do to prepare... Luckily I have about 8 months to do so...

Congratulations! Yeah no smoke for her. You can plan, but as soon as your little blessing arrives, it all goes out the window. Just have patience and everything will fall into place.

I will say that it is awesome that you are your girl are having this kid when you are both ready, and both of your families are being totally supportive ... the way things should be!Best of luck to you CowMan, quite an exciting time in your life indeed

I had 23 years to prepare and that didn't help, I been a father for 19 years and couldn't tell you a thing about raising them, not that I wasn't there or anything like that its just that people are vastly different and you never know what you're gonna get. Good luck my good friend, you have the right attitude, you'll do fine! Hug the little woman for me and remember, theres going to be some times in the next eight months when you'll have no idea who this woman is, its not just her you know. Breathe deep, think everything through and be patient, you'll be fine.

cheers cowman!
don't worry too much about baby-related specifics, just be there for your lady and you'll both be pleased to find how much instinct takes care of the rest. if you aren't already, begin spending lots of time with her right away.. ie live together! women aren't the only ones to experience hormonal changes while becoming a new parent, and it'll be a whole lot easier for you to get in the zone of fatherdom if you are already behaving like a partner.. the details you'll pick up along the way. you might end up feeling different about things than you ever thought you would.. you were never actually faced with the coming reality.. just roll with it! every kid is different, and unless someone else is living with you 24/7 they don't know what your family needs. the early years are huge! lots of facetime, lots of laughs, lots of talking.. none of it can be replaced by a salary, cool presents & trips on the weekend. be a man, but take your emotional role seriously! be it a boy or a girl, they'll need different things from you, and they'll need lots of quality attention.. even when they're tiny, and it seems like all they ever want is a boob, you gotta be there to let them touch, hear, smell you.. just be the kind of good man it seems like you've always been, brother.. genuine, happy, and social. your kiddo will take after you, become a righteous dude, and sometime around 2028 yhka will be blessed with a bunch of fresh photos from the cabin! once more.. congrats!!

Congrats man.
Ask your parents for some tips on health things and what not, and if you like how you were raised, ask them a few questions about that too. That is what grandparents biological and otherwise are for. And don't read Bill Cosby's book Fatherhood to seriously...that is the one my Dad always hands out?? Be compassionate that this will be a big learning experience and that it will take some time to 'know' what to do.

Congratulations man!
You have no idea how awsome its going to feel having a little one hug you and call you daddy. No other feeling like it. Your wife will be going through some changes during the pregnancy. Especially in the first months of the pregnancy and after the baby is born. You gotta take things with a pinch of salt sometimes, if u know what i mean. Might be moodswings, being tired, feeling "sick" or hormonal changes. They will pass. She might start crying for no reason. Its normal. Like no1 mentioned above, every child is different. One pregnancy can be easy, another one can be difficult. One child can be sleeping 8 hrs at night from day 1 and another can take 1-2 years to get to a sleeping pattern. Usually girls (they say) sleep better than boys. Our neighbour's girl was sleeping 12 hrs at night (from 8pm till 9am next day) while our first son was waking up, 5-6 times at night for 17 months. I thought i was going to loose it. But somehow it works out in the end. Atm our 2nd one has reflux and he needs alot of hugging. Lots of crying too and it stresses me and his mom alot sometimes. But you learn to handle it. Babies are so cute. Sometimes they can drive ya nuts, but 5 minutes later you love em to bits again tips: 1) dont let your wife smoke, drink or toke during pregnancy or while nursing. She should avoid taking antibiotics too. she should eat good, feel happy/positive and get plenty of rest. Go for walks in the park. Rub her belly. dont let her eat spicy stuff (cajun stuff, hot wings, etc during pregnancy and especially when she is nursing. Otherwise the baby will freak out from crying (stomach pains) and keep u up all night... 2) be there during the birth. Its a wonderfull experience. "Friends" were telling me not to be there cause i was gonna "freak out" and other stupidities. Nonsense. I enjoyed it the first time and in the second time i was even watching closely (taking lessons) to see what the ob gyn does. I thought to myself, hey u never know. U might be camping one year and a girl from a nearby tent might need assistance if her waters break. Its good to know stuff. So definatly be there for your wife. Rub her back, hold her hand and its gonna go fine. 3) You both should get plenty of sleep and rest before the baby comes to the world. You gonna need all the patience and stamina, after u bring the baby home from the hospital. Magic word : be patient. Help your wife with things at home. Wash the dishes for her, prepare the babys bath, do the shopping, etc etc When u hold that baby for the first time, you ll feel like Hermes with wings on your feet. Thats how great u gonna feel. Kids have work. Real work. I think you become a man, after being a daddy. It takes u to the next level. The level of responsibility. You will love this child more that you love yourself. good luck to both of you ![]() Btw, some great advice in this thread from No1 and Sputnik. Last edited by Peace seeker; 09-28-2009 at 11:43 AM. |
