Is intelligence a curse or a blessing?
They say ignorance is bliss.
I also feel like in general, people with exceptionally high levels of intelligence often have a harder time fitting into a social environment.

There's a difference between intelligence and being so enamored with it, sometimes even obsessed that you become incapable of living a normal life.

whoa dude you've been thanked 181 times in 118 posts. trippy
i'd say it's a def blessing. everyone finds their niche, even my asperger'd brother. and it beats trading intelligence for wanting to watch reality tv

Reminds me of a recent article I read.
It stated that career criminals tend to have lower IQ's. Well DUH ! Possibly why they cannot connect the crime with the potential punishment. I don't value things in terms of blessings and curses , but I do think that those who can comprehend and retain at a higher rate, have a definate advantage in life. |

i call it a responsibility. its really easy to be a dick when you know more than your fellows. with knowledge comes the responsibility to be compassionate to people who may not know as much as yourself, and to know when you can be helpful or when your input would be rude.
ya id say its a gift that requires some responsibility

intelligence isnt all its propped up to be. success in life is about so much more than just intelligence. there are tons of depressed smart people and tons of happy successful idiots.

truth waves. i think it might be easier to be happy when you are ignorant to alot of the inequities in modern day affairs. in fact, i think the middle ground, intelligence wise, are the ones who go the farthest. i think knowing more often leads to a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness with regard to bettering the world or w/e it is were supposed to be doing

it's a double-edged sword. the very qualities that constitute intelligence (analytic thinking, a desire to work out problems and weigh options) are also your worst weakness in alot of social relationships. you just have to recognize that it's a process of thinking and to live in the now. *ramble end*

anyone else notice the correlation between looks and intellect?
like the ladies that work at quick check by my house are the ugliest horse faced bitched i've ever seen in my life and theyre like 40 and make 8$ an hour then there's some really intelligent & good looking women i've met in my life (& yes theres a lot of hot dumb blondes but...) I think it's simple logic... if you're smart, you will make good money & get a hot wife. you will have kids; your kids will be smart & good looking.. if you're dumb/ugly you will have a dumb/ugly wife/kids... sure, there's peaks & valleys in the graph, but for the most part, its basic survival of the fittest... when's the last time you saw an ugly girl driving a really nice car? go ahead... prove me wrong

I walk around thinking, "How can these fucktards manage to remember to breathe, let alone work productively and pay their bills?" It's like "Idiocracy" every day, wherever I go. I get really sick of explaining simple shit to people. I have no one to talk to about the things that really interest me because few people are capable of understanding ideas that are too divergent from their conditioning. It's only the fact that I have a sense of humor that makes it possible for me to fit in with others.
On the other hand, there is such glorious, awe-inspiring beauty in every moment of my life. The simple elegance of everything reveals itself to me. The ideas and visions that fill my hours of attention are like magic. I would never give up the intellect I possess, even though it has made me very lonely. (BTW, I hope I don't come off as completely full of myself, but it really is a fact that I am in possession of an intellect that greatly exceeds that of nearly everyone I meet. I also probably cling to this idea, and its appeal, more than is healthy. However, when people don't understand you, they think you're not worth understanding, and that shit gets really REALLY old.) ![]() The Rev |

A lot of virtues other than intelligence have the dynamic of a blessing and a curse. Talent comes with a price to pay; having a lot of money means having all these new moochers in the form of cousins you've never met before, being an attractive guy might mean gay guys trying to holla, etc

Rev... are you... me?
Take out the 'really sick of explaining simple shit to people' (I'm too young to be saying this haha) and keep everything else as it is and that's where I'm at on this issue.

^ some of the notes he was singing sounded very familiar to me too.
sometimes, people will want to tell me of some amazing new concept/discovery/change...and so often, I just have to look right thru their heads, because the discussion is so trite to me. But I isolate more now, so it doesn't happen all that often. |
