word man i missed that qualifier the first time around. but i think a better solution than institutionalizing them all would be education, as follows with many of the challenges we face as a society. maybe many those people's development wouldn't have been so stifled if the parents knew how to deal with their condition, you know? institutionalizing them just seems like a rash, reactionary approach akin to the war on drugs and other nonsense.

^ at the institution i am talking about they do send them to school every day, but its my brothers opinion that its just done in good faith and that they dont actually learn anything because they dont have the mental capacity. they do try to teach them to be higher functioning and some get to move up to houses with less supervision and get jobs at local supermarket or such.

how can we expect kids with whatever shit they're labeled with to be alright when they're parents won't buck up.
i'm just saying its like "retarded" kids and some people aren't in control of their actions when they damn well know how get away with doing shit. like look at killerr. the guy disciplines his sister because someone has to show her how to be. heh its like how verk just said, the parents have to be able to deal with them. and that means being a firm and caring. i just know i would try and be like killerr if i had a brother or sister who was "diagnosed" with some "problem." but... there were kids at my school. i hardly talked to them cause they didn't talk much to me. few of them were always talkin and smilin with other people though. then there was like one in a wheel chair who drooled. didn't talk. guys like that you just gotta be nice and care for em i guess. so yeah the ones capable of doing mean shit... timeout motherfucker.

parenting is just as much, or more, the issue
any parent can stuff up their child even a child with 'perfect' genetics ADHD misdiagnosis, medication highway, parents pacified, child labelled Autism can be the same (nice post asg) but that's only one side of the spectrum my son is more disabled than that, so i understand a fair bit about the challenges even good parents will struggle, and good siblings, carers etc 90% of marriages in similiar situations will separate many parents suicide i am lucky with my son, he is quite happy, mostly i've spent time with many families with disabled children some of those parents did more work, lifted more weight, gave more meds than i did and, imo, got less back from their child than i do it's not easy staying positive 24hr a day over years and years when you are exhausted i feel sad for my kids i only care for my son one day a week now, i used to be his full time carer i hope all the kids are ok without me |

It's almost 2 years ago since we met last time and I remember very well what you told me back then, I think I can understand your feelings a bit more then others here...
What can I say but I'm glad he's still alive and well (as well as he can be), what I didn't get is why you said you're hoping your kids are ok without you? |
