What's your take on texting your family?

I've been living on my own for years now and although I'm not estranged from my brothers and sisters, we all live pretty seperate lives. Now my younger ones are getting their own cell phones so we text message eachother to stay in touch. They're always telling me their in class while they're texing, too. That makes me feel old cause even though we had cell phones when I was in high school, texting in class wasn't really something we did.

Then of course there's my mom and dad, my uncle and now even my grandma is learning to text. It's opened a lot of doors of controlled communication that I like a lot. But also... it's kind of weird that they have that sort of access to me.

The traditional routes of communication: knocking on my bedroom door and leaving notes on the counter were much more quaint.

Technology, the great equilizer, I guess?

I text family frequently, but I am not a slave to my phone. I pick it up when *I* want to pick it up, not necessarily because it rings or beeps. I like txting 'cause its quick.

More power to you, dude. That's why I miss the landline, it was so much easier to lie and avoid people. Now it's like, what excuse can you make for not responding to 8 texts and 4 voicemails? You can't say I wasn't home or my mom didn't give me the message or that you're avoiding the bill collector.

The screen just loads up with people trying to drag you out of your shell and they KNOW you see it.

It wouldn't strike you as weird to wake up to notes, and old people hammering your bedroom door, when you've been living away for years?

It's not exactly a master skill to learn either, I'm sure your g'ma could figure out how to get Domino's at 1-800-PIZZA, or whatever, same principal as texting.

Those were just the good old days, nun. I imagined talking to my family a lot less as I got older but text messaging is proving that to be unlikely.

i dont text my family. none of the cool familia members have cell phones and I've been careful about not giving the ones that do have cellphones my number, because they're annoying and ask me "what i'm doing right now"
