i think its about time we can collectively grow up and stop assigning such negative properties to simple words. they're just fucking words. its not even the fucking words that matter when you talk its what your saying. what you MEAN. fuck.

ever thought about that? how fucked up it is that we give these fucking words such power?

I remember the first time I swore in front of my Mom. We were tilling the garden and the engine on the rototiller staled. I put my hand down on a hot part of the engine unknowingly with the intention of pull starting it again, only to shout,'God Damn IT!'

And then froze and looked at her.

'That is a good time to do it'

Wheew, a relief for any 7th grader.

My swearing became a lot more frequent and careless around the time of my parents divorce when I was 16-17 and I told them frankly, that I was pretty angry and I really wasn't going to be hold back with any of my feelings. Still a pretty formal engagement.

However I'll never forget the sign in front of the school bus hanging above us all.

"Swearing is the effort of a weak mind to speak effectively."

That is one thing that has never really stopped ringing in my head, when I do curse. Which I have curtailed and nearly stopped over the years. Except for when I am working more construction related jobs. One of the worst times was doing garden maintenance with a group of ladies. Don't know where the idea came from, but this sorta surprised me after working on a commercial landscaping crew with masons carpenters and grunts.

When I worked at the greenhouse I worked with Amish ladies, that is when not cursing nearly became an art form of choosing better words to express myself, out of respect.

words are used to communicate with others.

if the words you choose are offensive to others, then you have failed to communicate.

if the words you choose are too 'eloquent' for the crowd to are speaking to, then you have failed to communicate.

the thing is....why are you talking anyway? to communicate with others or to try to show off and pretend you are more intelligent and superior or tougher and rougher?

anytime someone uses the same word or phrase over and over, it is boring to others. whether it be a 'curse' word or not.

i would rather hear the word 'fuck' used appropriately, then to hear someone say, "aaa, like, aaa, ya know what i mean" over and over and over.

i have a very good vocabulary. so does everyone in my family. we like to talk to each other. we like to communicate ideas to each other. you need words to do this. all of the words.

i always felt the intent behind the words was more important. it's what you are communicating that's important. if my kid said, " fork you, you little batch, you're nothing but a little a hole" to her sister, she would be in trouble. if she said 'shit' because her block tower fell, it would be ok.

That is golden. I'm going to remember that. It's exactly the reality of what is happening when a person curses. They may as well be making fart noises with their mouth, it's equally as effective and offensive.

I think cursing can be effective at times, but I agree. There are better words out there 99% of the time. Especially here on the message board where we actually have time to think before we speak.

i watch my mouth around ppl i really don't know, family, and children.

i view it as a sign of respect.

with my friends (irl and online), i cuss, and i enjoy it.

when and if i have kids, i will watch my mouth around them, scold them if they do, but no corporal punishment. my babysitter used to wash my mouth out with soap. she also switched me. i hate her to this day for it.
