Red face "I lost my job" thread

After seven months of temp at a startup medical company they gave me the boot this morning. In part because they were informed of my future plans to go elsewhere - to a company that makes money.

Anyway, YaHooka, do you still have a job?

Sorry to hear that, next time shouldn't tell people at work your going to go work somewhere else, 'cause keeping you would be kind of like a conflict of interest.

I'm on the edge...

I worked as a supervisor for a manufacturing plant, until the plant closed, now I'm the facilities manager/caretaker. The place has one employee, me. I come in at 7:00 am and sit here until 3:30 pm posting here, playing poker and looking for another job. There is no commercial real estate market here right now, so the place sits dormant, the owner couldn't give the place away right now.

I didn't expect it to go on this long, I'm really not expecting it to go on a whole lot longer, but I'll keep showing up for as long as there is a paycheck at the end of the week.

I was laid off in March by the dicksuck company I worked for. In 2008 they made, in the first quarter, record sales that was actually more than they made the prior year (in all 4 quarters). Sure it slowed down a bit in December but fucking they outsourced 90% of the full time positions to fucking China and cut everyone's salary by 20%.

Fucking whore of a company, I hope their interim CEO gets fucked by a giraffe.

This isn't mentioning they help produce probably 90% of the plastic garbage that is littering the world today.

I've been working for my folks doing projects around the farm. It sucks royal ass working for family. It's just really unorganized and displeasing. I actually got all my shit together last weekend, got on a metal roof in the rain, to be told to go home, which isn't an abnormal thing to happen.

My major problem is school. I can't hold any carpentry position, because carpenters work during the fucking day, when I'm at school.

keep your chin up osirus2020 im sure something will come up and work itself out for you.

Are you checking classifieds and craigslist for odd jobs?

And you'd be surprised at the enormous response you'd get if you would stratigecally place some ads on bulletin boards at the store / mall / city hall and such.

Alot of people could use some inexpensive carpentry.

I actually had something lined up with a customer of ours to help re sheath and shingle her roof and re finish her basement. I really need to call her back about that, but she's pretty nuts and thinks she is going to be able to keep up with me lifting 3/4" plywood which is pretty unrealistic for a 40 year old women with absolutely no carpentry skills.

The major problem I have is that I only basic carpentry tools and I don't believe I'm experienced enough to do work for myself. It's not that I doubt my skills, but I've only worked under other guys who have done this for 40+ years, I don't know building codes and the "way things is". I'm not concerned of getting busted by the person I'm doing work for, but I refuse to do work improperly as long as I have a say in it. On top of that I don't have a Table saw, skill saw, sawzall, framing nailer, brad nailer, roofing nailer, miter saw, compresser, air hoses, apron, etc.Anyways sorry to get all bitchy about that I'm having a shit day again.

I have gained a lot of knowledge of moving huge shit in the most precarious of places. Nothing sucks more than carrying a 400 lb cast iron tub down a flight and a half of wooden, spiral stair cases. I could probably look for demo/moving odd jobs.

I never really thought of checking CL for anything besides used auto parts and hookers.

Make sure your real honest with people who your going to do work for, tell them what you can and can`t do.
Maybe checkout directory and call up some carpenters or renovation companies and tell what skills you got what tools you do and don't have.

I'm sure if you keep at it something will work out for sure. Just gotta try try try.

good luck homes!

The biggest problem is that most companies don't want to hire a very part time college student. Probably also because I'm a pot smoking college student.

I'm actually going to talk to my previous employers about possibly picking up a day or two a week. Haven't been in but work has steadily picked up since shit went downhill the past year and a half.

I stopped in a garden center by my house but they don't need help till spring time. I've just been asking if places are looking for any part time help...Is there some magical sequence of words that immediately grant the opportunity of work, or am I doing alright?
