I quit my job
Maybe I've just seen "Fight Club" one too many times, but I decided to say, "Fuck it" and opt out of the hamster wheel life. It was depressing the shit out of me, feeling like I was working harder and harder, getting less and less real value out of it, and making less and less money. So, I opted to trade in a life of quiet desperation for one of sheer terror instead.
As of today, I am a professional stock trader. I'm going to be doing mostly day trading, and so far, I've made like 10 bucks. I'm not going into this blind, however. Over the last several months, I have been developing a system and putting it to the test with really exciting returns. I am hoping that this will be my ticket to living life as I choose, rather than devoting my entire life to a job, which provides the money to finance this devotion but not the time to have much of a life beyond it. I'll let you all know how I do. Some people think I'm nuts. Some admire me. Some (those closest to me) are totally supportive. We shall see which is right. Anyway, this is probably the ballsiest thing I've ever done, and I'm pretty nervous about it, and probably will be until I realize I can make it work. I know I can do it, but you know how fear can be. Anyway, no more wage slavery for me. Now, my fate is in my own hands, and belongs to me as well. Wish me luck. ![]() The Rev |

fucking major props is the first thing that came to my mind when i seen the title of this thread then i read the first line of your post and i was even more impressed i am super happy for you good shit fuck being a mother fucking statistic and on a side note i used to sell weed to this guy who had MS pretty bad and couldnt walk without crutches and shit (i'd sell him primo shit at cost cause he'd smoke all of it with me, so ive never made money of him ever cause that'd be wrong and im not down with that) and thats what he did is buy and sell stocks everday all day on new york time and he made good money he said the margins are really small but if you read the news and look into the company to see if they're up or down then if you can buy a fuckload of shares if they go up even a penny youve made a fuckload of pennies anyways im just really happy for you for a while now ive seen what you wrote about your job and it just seemed like you weren't down with it. so good shit Rev. good fucking shit.

Awesome man, takes serious balls to do what you want to do, especially in a society that wants to shove you in a cubicle 9-5 for the rest of your days.

be fucking careful. I've seen some very rich friends lose a lot of money on the stock market in the last few years.
and before anyone makes fun of me for having rich friends, they all fit into either the 'eccentric old rich hippie' category or the 'made a shitload of money through entrepeneurial pursuits' category. Also having rich friends is chill cause you can borrow their stuff or chill on their land. an eccentric rich old hippie guy I know has 6.5 acres and a private beach/cove in a really nice suburb of Boston, worth prolly $30m right now but he lost 10m on stocks in 2008 alone. |

Well Rev I didn't quit my job but I took the early out they offered and I have no regrets. I wish you the best of luck. Stock Market shit in todays world is tough. Its nice being free to get a nice buzz all day. I vaporize and/or eat and/or smoke and then golf. Pretty blessed for now.

Me again Rev, what you said about the closest people to you being the most supportive rings true to me. In todays economy friends said I'm nuts leaving a great paying job for a pension but my wife was so supportive and told me to get the hell out but make sure her dinner is on the table when she gets home. Its only been three months but I'm loving it and making her great meals. I do toke a bit to much but life's short!! Again, I wish you and your family all the best in this life changing move.

Old head! I haven't seen you around here for awhile, man! It's good to see you. I'm glad things are going so well for you. I haven't done alot of toking, but you'd be surprised how many great ideas related to economics and stocks that have come to me while high.

I hear what you're saying, kitch. It's funny, too, because if people were watching the pricing trends in the market, they would have seen that crash coming a year away. Even the crash in 1987, the one everyone thought came out of nowhere, gave about 3 weeks warning. The way the economy works is actually really simple. I just don't think many people actually understand it. The financial press is so full of bullshit explanations for stuff that I can't blame the average investor for being confused all the time. Me, I plan to short the next crash! ![]() The Rev |

one time junior year when i was in economics all the economics classes played against each other in a virtual stock market. I bought $9k out of the $10k everyone was given and I bought all google stocks. It was right when they went from like $100-$700 in one month. I ended up being 1st in all of the econ classes and I made roughly $60k.
I will never have the balls to do that with my money though. I hope you have as much luck as I did then! |

texas holdem poker maybe.
been playing 3 weeks, and gone from their free $2000.00 to $248,000.00. I look at like this, if I'd have actually invested 20 bucks...I'd be up over 2 grand by now. |

I have friends who play poker professionally online and make good money at it. Almost seems less risky then day trading.

Rev, damn weed, I keep forgetting things. I wanted to tell you that I sort of did daytrading. I have a TSP (like a 401K plan) from my job and I can invest it in numerous type funds. We were aloud to switch it around daily. I would move all my money into the stock market and then get out if things turned sour. I did it alot and was making a nice tidy sum. (more money you have the bigger the return)But alas it was costing them too much with my numerous monthly moves so they put an end to it. Now if I move it it has to stay in the fund for a month. Again good luck and please fill in how this goes. I'd be interested in your process.

damn bro... i give you props for doing what you did... but just be ready with a backup plan... not trying to sound negative or anything man but day trading is no joke, and certainly no 'get rick quick' scheme, especially in this economy. you could easily make 5k$ in one day... and then lose 50k$ over the course of a week... i've seen it happen first hand even recently to people i know.
and on a more deeper note... a friend of mine is an independent floor trader on the NYMEX trading copper... its stressful as fuck for her and she hates her job half the time and loves it the other half... but i can't count how many times ive heard her bitch and complain about her job, its an everyday thing, and its something that i quit my old job to specifically avoid. she does pretty well for herself - but not *that* much more then a good (100k+) 9-5 salary gig can get you. and to be honest, she's no happier then any other person I know... so even if you do 'make it' as a day trader... you might find yourself right in the same spot you were standing before.... one of the most important lessons ive learned in life is there is no such thing as 'easy money'. no matter anyway you look at it... good luck my friend
