Don't watch the news

I'm a bit of a hypocrite, because I have been recently. It's just the negative things or covert advertising. It isn't good for anyone.

Newspapers, tv news, and internet news should be avoided at all costs. Do you really need to know all of the horrible things that happen in the world? Does it help you?

Some tips are to use google search engine or one that doesn't feature news. Don't watch tv because all television shows suck and corporate advertising is disgustable with hidden agendas.

Yeah, watch movies and porn if you want, but stay away from anything that has advertising.

While the news is indeed full of hype and nonsense and depressing stories, you are still a moron.

I have to admit I am a bit addicted or something. But this is a recent realization that I had. My excuse to read the news before was that I wanted to stay connected to the world events so that if something big happened, not only would I know but perhaps I could be of some assistance. Well, that's bullshit pretty much. If it's that big, I'd know anyway and if I could help, I'd also know. And it never ends up happening that way anyway, I always end up reading the bs stories that just either freak me out or infect my mind with thoughts I'd rather not have.

So, yes, fuck the news. If I read any kind of news, I'm going to just read my local paper. That's the news that really matters to me directly anyway, not these massive corporate institutions of spin that is referred to as "news."

lol did nobody phone for help on 9/11?

Really though, OP if reading a newspaper fills your life with an uncontrollably pedantic outlook, just throw yourself infront of a train already.

Edit: Plus, our tabloids have topless birds in them every fucking day, woot.

I don't think one needs to forego the news completely, they just have to remember that the criterium for which a story is picked is not it's relevance to reality, but rather it's likelihood to sell ad space.

For me, listening to any news is like listening to Rush. I know there is some truth which the news in based on, but someone's pretty much got a message for me. I can't discount it entirely, as I do that with few things in life. There are plenty of good things that happen in the news. Read more local stuff.

It's like a prerequisite for female anchors to be old and ugly here. If I ever watch Mexican channel they are young and attractive, and I'm pretty sure we're the only country that does this.

Rev and Sage missed the point. It's not about accuracy but how it is mostly manipulative advertising trying to get us to consume. Pay attention to the next story you see and how they will tell you to buy something (for your safety of course)

news is mostly gay bullshit but i like to stay informed, not that it actually helps me any. i laugh every time i catch something on the radio or tv news that i read days or weeks before on digg.

horrible news doesn't really bother me, but i understand how news cycles are primarily driven by tragedy and how that affects others. in general, we would do well not to watch the news.

Haha for some reason I pictured that being said William Shatner style.

World news is for the most part, depressing, but they don't make the news to make you feel happy, they do it to make money. At the end of the day, they're business and $ is where it's at, so whatever garners the most viewers increases their profit margin.

I don't think it's any great conspiracy, but I do think the news is responsible for many people living in fear, to the detriment of their health, their quality of life, and the quality of life of those around them. That and advertising: "OMG! You mean if I don't use brand X, no one will fuck me!" (I'm looking at you, Axe commercials...)
