My Bread Recipe:

#1
The Start of your yeast: make the water just cool enough to let you fingure in it comfortably after a boil, then add the rest: Keep in a warm place. Sometimes I use 3 cups and add what I need on step #3 to keep it from getting too dry, but stops the loaf from being overly moist in the end.

totally spelled recipe wrong...
#2
Sift all these together in a bowl, once yeast is risen add this all together mix well. In a warm place. 2 wheat cups to 1 white cup of flour for this part.

#3
Add the remaining ingredients. Slowly add the flour to dough, mixing well, then on a floured counter add the rest of the flour, add pats of water should the dough become dry. During all rises after this cover with a damp towel, just slightly so.

#4
So at this point after the second rise, you relax the dough on the counter. Grease pans while it does that with vegetable shortening. Then add to pans when loaf shape is deemed fit, preheat oven. Turn loaf after 15-20 mins adjust time and temp on oven as needed. Sometimes apt. ones are smaller than a conventional over.

Put a knife into a loaf and see if it comes out clean, this is how you will know, it's ready. I sometimes put a small knife prick in the top of each loaf so I don't crush it in when I do this test.

No one has ever shown me how to make bread, I just picked it up and did it, so don't fear. Just remember what ever happens make the best of it. There are lots of things you can do with bread that gets too dry or doesn't rise.

Just remember if it feels too warm to bring to your lips the water is too hot and you're yeast will die.

After that it's all just concrete style work...right amount of water, right amount of mix.

notice my helper friend sticking its head up behind the loaf.

Metta,
SageTree

Hope that is readable. I wasn't having much luck with them being focused. The light wasn't really all that good.

nice sage. that is something everyone should know how to do. homemade bread and then maybe some soup with vegetables straight from your own garden.

We did have soup and salad with it last night, but alas, when the veggies are fresh, it too hot to make bread, and when its cool to make bread, the ground has snow all over it. It's good to just have something fresh at all times though, and when winter is this long the only thing up here that is fresh is frozen and shipped here

Do you help her at all. When I went back to see my family last year I made bread for Mombo, my grama. She asked for some of the dough and made some bomb ass sticky buns. She said it was the first time in 50 yrs she had done it and she is 73. So that is pretty cool to have that sharing in my memories now, and I have the recipe to make them buns now

i would ruin bread.. hahah

i'm a good cook, but i don't measure and cook by taste. baking is all like chemical reactions and shit-- it's more of a science at it's core than cooking on a stove [at least for me], and science was never a subject i excelled at in school.. hahah

I saw "yeast" and figured the thread was either about beer or vaginas. Imagine my disappointment. That is, until I saw the loaf. That bread looks yum, man. I can practically smell it.

You get the yeast right and you get the rest pretty easily. It's just knowing the texture you're looking for in the dough. I humbly amazed my bread came out edible let alone a coveted item to my friends and family. I don't do much baking other wise though. I just want some good bread to go with our cooking efforts.

^ what a lazy ass.

thanks for this sage, always been wondering what bread you were making.
started makin some last winter, sreally nice having your house warm from the oven and smelling like warm bread. Kinda a lot like love. Alsooo, I totally disagree about it being too hot to do up your own bread when you have your own veggies. But thas just me, I spose it's weird that I eat soup all year round. Oh wells.
Also bought "the bread baker's apprentice" which is a really great book I found for really learning what you're doing. Helps you realize what outcomes you'll reap from doing certain things. Kinda cool

See step #3 in the written directions. I have stir/knead, because I always mix so in, in the bowl so it's easier when I spill it out on the counter to knead it. And I defiantly DO do that, it's the most meditative 15-20 mins out of the whole process, other than we sitting during risings

Well, first thing, I'm not off all day, which is why it also works so well in the winter. The other reason is our apartment is 25 degrees at some points in the summer and would get well about 30+ if I baked. The cats are physically uncomfortable in that heat , I don't have AC in the house so I try to take it easy on all of us.

I don't eat a lot of bread, most of what I make I give away, but I do eat more of it in the winter, so it seems to align with my seasonal trends to have a better supply then.

I agree with the love thoughts in preparing food. 100%
