I have had this thing for a week now and it does work. You might miss a word here or there so I wouldn't make important calls on it, and the quality goes down some if you download anything while talking on it. I read someone say they gather personal info from the software and I didn't read the TOS but that's sort of sketchy. You have to leave your computer on all the time to take calls from it but you can have messages forwarded to another number.

Basically it works as advertised.

Maybe, I haven't used my skype yet. The jack thing with the dumb gimmicky name is probably a lot easier to set up since you just plug it in and it pretty much takes care of itself as far as setting it up goes, you just have to choose a number. I would give it a 7 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being extremely grandma friendly and 1 being not grandma friendly at all.

Skype is a system where the other user has to have same or similar equipment in order to communicate. Magic Jack is a Voice over Internet Protocol phone service, which means you get a dial tone and you can call anyone who has any type of phone. I have the same service at my home.

It may interfere with your bandwidth, so I recommend going with the fastest if you are using VoIP. Magic Jack doesn't sound quite as good as the service I have, but it could be used for many purposes. Great to use for advertising phone numbers as you can monitor them from anywhere in the world.
