What's usually at parties is fairly inexpensive, on average. Nobody should feel perpetually entitled to exemptions for what they consume at social events. As the creator of the event, one should expect to dish out for mild expenses (food, booze, whatever) toward some party essentials.

A "Bring ___ or you don't get any of ours!" mentality makes BYOB seem like it stands for "Buy Your Own, Bitches", and in poor taste (guests are often more willing to help a generous host).

@sarsy You're giving people too much credit.
I know plenty of people that stop by parties to get shitty without any concern for the people who paid. I'm certain you've come across many of these same people. People get tired of shelling out money for others that couldn't give two fucks.
And booze is a mild expense? What're you goin to tea parties? Cmon girlll

Oh, of course. There are notorious chronic moochers around everywhere. Nobody likes them, naturally. The solutions are either don't invite them or don't let them in if they show. That's the beauty of the phrase "our/my place". You have that kind of power in this situation.

my tribe is great to party with

we all bring food, we all clean up in some way before we leave who ever's place we're partying at, we all bring excess intoxicants which we share with each other, we all go home with a bit less after we've all had plenty

it's like unwritten etiquette to contribute more than your presence to any social gathering

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

When i had parties at my old house i would throw down with 4-6 of my close friends for a few liters of alcohol and four 30 packs... and people who came to the party would give us money and we would buy more, or they would bring there own

this brings all kinds of unwanted attention but then again it's pretty prevalent amongst the college community

in which case, the lulz is on him. it could be that everyone's putting up with him based solely on him having his own place. that sucks

This dude's inviting mad people to his party claiming it's gonna be some crazy, unforgettable shindig, but then I hear from him that he's not gonna have anything, not even cups for pong. That's just lame.
i hear what youre getting at

I always hated the byob thing as well

I had an unforgettable party once and I did supply some beer, a lot of mixed drink (orange drink + xtian bros brandy) really cheap, but everyone still brought stuff and I never had to tell people byob.
