This is basically what I'm getting at. What is this ray of sunshine doing to get through the clouds?

Fair enough. #3 was more the context I meant that in. I was saying today, because it struck me that this isn't your usual style.

So let me rephrase...

Are you doing OK today?

I can appreciate your 'realism' and will even say identify with it.
I only offer the words that I hope you see some real good in the world as well as the real problems, concerns and solutions for day to day living. No offense meant. I hope you encounter the small celebrations among the toil of day to day life.

No no no... I am absolutely fine.

It's just that this thread was about a 'US soldier waterboarding his daughter' and it turns out that it's really nothing more than some asshole being mean to his kid but in order to scare the fuck out of the masses it has to be labeled as something heinous and unthinkable when in reality abusing a child IS heinous and unthinkable but like I said before, that doesn't grab you by the balls.

So, to answer you, there is good in the world and I do see it and I'm even a part of it sometimes. I would however prefer that the information that gets to us is actually real, as boring and tedious or horrific and brutal as the reality of it may be, but at the end of the day i want to know that what it is I do know is real.

I'm with you on that. Stephen Colbert said it best: "If you're not scared, I'm not doing my job as a news man." The news media is just like the rest, trying to get the attention of as many people as possible so that they'll be there when the show switches to messages from its sponsors. The problem is, scary shit gets peoples' attention better than normal everyday shit, so you get only the scariest shit possible. John Stossel even suggested it might be taking years off our lives.

The financial press is even worse. At least the stuff on the regular news actually happened. Financial stories are cherrypicked OPINIONS about what will happen in the future. Every time the Dow drops a few points, everything you read is about how unemployment will go on forever at double digits and the next crash is right around the corner. And, every time the Dow goes up a few points, everything you read is about how this is great and all, but unemployment will still go on forever and the next crash is still right around the corner. Seriously, any kook with a dire enough theory can get billed as an expert in the financial press.

Personally, as a person with anxiety issues, I'm watching less and less TV just to stay sane.

I concur with that man.
There are many stories here of natives disappearing, but when a non-native disappears its like the end of the world and the search parties are unleashed..... of course there are tons of headlines and vigils for them.
That's frustrating without a doubt.
It's like the question," How famous do you have to be for your shooting to be an assassination rather than just a murder?"
Abuse is abuse and I think this is just as sad and fucked up as any abuse story I've ever heard.

Thanks for clarifying
