Athabasca oil sands
Ain't no jobs in Buffalo. What do y'all know about the oil sands in Alberta? Someone here works there right? What do I need to do to get hired there?

dont work with the oil companies.
You have no clue what you are inhaling around the drills and whatnot, as they wont release all the chemicals they use. oil drilling is contaminating our world.

Dont take advice from bender, he doesn't have shit.
And really, less talk more do. You need money, get a job. Its not like its going to be permanent, just go get money. |

I think the "how" is pretty much show up and apply. Even if you don't get hired by any of the really big ones there are lots of contracting companies that will get you working. Some of the general oilfield stuff really picks up once the frost is in the ground.

when i was 17 i moved out of my moms house in montreal and moved to fort mcmurray alberta (and been on my own ever since)
it was pretty fucked up everyone makes crazy $$$$ up there but rent in the shittiest of the shittiest part of the little town cost us 1600$ a month down the street from the 7/11 at the end of a cul-de-sac where a bunch of crackheads lived in tents had to get clean piss from a buddy to get a good job with syncrude (one of the major oil companies, the other one is suncore) and the work was boring hard but the money was ridcilously good, i was making over 1200$ a week easy but then this one crackhead smoked me in the head with a huge 2by4 he was carrying over his shoulder by spinning around real quick and busted my eye up real good and at any point and time you get attention from a medic (i was pissing blood out of my eye) they make you pee and in a cup (even if it's not your fault) and hey-hoo-hay-hooray-mikey's a pothead what do you say?!!! so overall it sucks i've never had wads of hundred dollar bills in my pocket yet been so miserable in my life ended up washing dishes at delaney's irish pub for 16$ an hour after that we said fuck this shit and hitchiked to vancouver and started my life in bc im glad for the experience and im glad it brought me here but up there man, it's nuts, it's crazy, it's literally bizarro world unless you like being surrounded by a bunch of stupid fucking meathheads, who are being extra meathead-ish because they have a lot of money then go... economy's nuts up there kids at mcdonalds start at like 14$/h dont do it there is jobs in buffalo or somewhere near by i live on a tiny secluded resort town island and i found work where there's a will there's a way and you don't want to work for the oil guys anyway it's blood money` but fuck what i say follow your heart do what you gotta do some of the worse decisions i've ever made actually worked out for me because i learned such valuable lessons from my mistakes that i would of never learned otherwise

I'll agree with Mikey and say living in or near Fort Mac just for work would be shitty. The money is what everyone chases, Northern Alberta is no different.

there are jobs avail. and should you get one, general practice is you stay in a camp, free food, living allowance, $20+/hour wages. shit, they serve steak and lobster once a week. they do work your ass off, though. the schedule is 2 weeks on, 1 week off. usually 10 hours a day. OT is plentiful and often depending on the time of season.

i worked in a camp a while back, and one of the main things i miss was the FOOD, damn was it good.. prime rib every sunday, burger and shake night, steak night, seafood night, pizza, etc.. made by actual chefs, not some cafeteria crap. i dont knw about the ones in canada but the camps here work you like 14 hours a day, but 2 weeks off and 2 on. here in ak theyre always hiring for people to work IN the camp, because people always getting fired, including me lol. (seemd like people were getting fired like every other day.. you get paid less than the people working in the field, but its still pretty good money.
