Anyone ever been for a stay like a year or so? If so could anyone give me advice to relay to my good friend. He's like way to nice of a guy to be going there and there's a real good chance he is. Breaking and entering on a dirty record(2 duis, possession, paraphenalia, driving under suspension + more) while intoxicated on drugs.

Also what are suspended sentences how does that work?

a year means if he's going to do good then he'll be out in 7 months (but might be on parole or probation for a while, so allota people just do their whole term)

is it prison or jail? here's some prison advice, it can be kinda like jail but jail is like a walk-in clinic a revolving door, prison is a big house full of bad (i say that figuratively) people that live there permanently , hence the expression the big house

umm, never ever accept kind favors from strangers like if people are offering you a cigarette or smoke a joint or something because it will be used against you and before you 'owe' them, especially if your new, your a fish they can smell you from a mile away and will try to make friends, so be on the lookout for these kinda people

which brings me to the biggest thing, never, ever get into debt with someone ever. it can get real nasty real quick

have someone on the outside put money in for cantine or if u can get a job inside (ull only make like 3 bucks a day but itll add up and you can buy shoes, better hygiene products, tv, headphones, radio)

read read read work out work out work out, gotta keep your mind busy, dont sit and dwell on it, think of it as a year to better yourself, there's a lot, and i mean alot of excercises you can do in a small ass cell, squat jumping pushup position squat back, and just read

and work out so you can defend yourself too, when shit comes down to it, you can't take shit from anybody, and i mean aaaanybody if the biggest mother fucker in the hall comes up to you and tells you to fuck off, even if your gonna get your face smashed in you got to stand up for yourself and man up. otherwise everyone will think your a bitch and will treat you like one.

so no shit from nobody, ever.

only friends you can actually trust (i use that word figuratively again because never trust anyone ever) to a certain extent is guys doing a lot, alot of time like 10yrs+, so if your gonna make friends try to make it with old timers.

oh yeah, and not to sound racist, but you have to stick with your race / skin color. i mean even if your not racist, everybody else is man. blacks eat with blacks, whites eat with whites, and hispanic eat with hispanics.

oh and never ever snitch on anyone for anything, you'll get smashed, even if your confronted by CO's (correctional officers, they call em co's or pigs) and get threatened with seg time if you don't tell them what happened or what you saw, just shut up and take the time in the segregation unit/ the hole

write a lot of letters to all your friends, snail mail. almost no one gets it and if they do write back it's something to look forward to

other then that, i dunno flee the country

like if u hate fish like i do, then make sure ur allergic to fish so ull never have fish sticks or nasty ass fish filets

and tell them you hear voices all the time and if you talk crazy enough shit saying how you see and hear things because you used to do alot of drugs they'll prescribe you high mg's doses of serequil,you have to take it in front of them but its easy to hide in ur cheek

serequil is like currency in prison, or just take it and get fucked up / mellowed out

but say your coming off hard drugs, and hardcore raging alcholic i drink 60oz a day liquor drinking and you will go through withdrawals

then the first few days you'll buddy get a few valiums, and keep complaining about your heart rate and how it's not working

I've never been but from what I've heard short term stays usually aren't that big of a deal because everyone is lumped together by sentence (like here everyone with more than 2 years is in a different system). So basically if you are doing a short sentence pretty much everyone else will be too, and most people are just going to want to do their 6 months or whatever and leave. It isn't likely going to be like prison horror stories where everyone is doing life without parole and has nothing to lose.

I don't know if that's true, but it made sense to me

^ ya in canada if you get less than two years (which is why alot of sentences are "two years less a day") you go to minimum security, which is like little housing units and shit and doesn't seem all that bad. no idea if its the same in the USA.

County, State, Federal, Minimum, Maximum... It doesn't matter. The only thing that REALLY matters is, 'will your anus stay intact or not?'

all i know about jail is FUCK would i not last in my local county jail. Gettin locked up in jersey aint fun if your a small ginger kid.

the only laws i break are drug laws, but to get a certain fav drug of mine means a trip to the hood every once in a while. NOT FUN / SCARY AS FUCK

Terry you've been a huge help here brother I appreciate it a lot and I'm sure my buddy does too. Thanks everyone as well. Yea county isn't too good of a thing, the nearest one to him is supposed to be pretty bad. He'll survive, but man the concept of jail/prison just sucks.
