Do you listen?

I mean this in a literal way

Do you listen more than speak? Are you one to interrupt and totally switch the subject?

Why are there people who after repeated attempts get their attention to the fact that they are extremely rude, never ever change?

Either they'll try to finish your sentence, speak the millisecond you stop thinking you're totally done talking, or they'll act as if you weren't even speaking and just continue their thought as if if they didn't give ample time to tell me it's my turn to think of a response.

..alll this adult ADD internal noise i think is what it is....

Yet he doesnt seem to be able to recognize that he does it. Its wierd.

I also know a few other people like that, they are just not there while being talked to.

My ex's mom was like this anytime Politics were brought up... nothing like not being able to complete a sentence or answer a question without being shouted down after getting two words out...

It differs based on who I'm talking too...

I have a couple of friends who are always running their mouth not paying attention to the rhythm of the conversation and then when you don't reply they say "awkward" and start babbling about how awkward silence is the worst or something...With these people I end up sitting there thinking about everything else but what they are talking about...

On the other hand I have a couple of friends that most of the time is spent in silence, I do most of the babbling and they chime in whenever necessary...In the group setting I am usually the quiet one..

The balance comes from finding the rhythm and like a good band does allow all voices to be heard at the level in which allows for the conversation to be the most fluid...

There are those who listen, and those who are simply waiting for their turn to talk. I find most people I deal with fall into the latter category. My solution has been to work on my listening skills. I mean, it's not like I would be heard if I talked anyway, right?

My ex was like that, she'd be saying something and you'd want to add something, but you had to wait til she finished this whole fucking paragraph of thought that was anything but concisely delivered. Then you'd finally get to say something. But then her response would be the next paragraph she was going to say before, and you find out the only reason you got to say anything was because she had to breathe for a little.

Meh.

I listen and watch....if I didn't open my mouth from time to time people would probably forget I was there. I'm the guy at a party who is watching everything around him, what people are doing, their body language, listening to little snippets of a dozen different conversations....

^ I flip in and out of that state on a regular basis when I'm out. We all really are strange.
