Swapping Internet Providers

So my grandma wants to swap ISP and get magic jack because her bill is enormous. 700$ this month.. But I looked around and can't decide what would be best, or even how to go after it.

What would you guys suggest?

You need a plan that doesn't run like that. I've never paid more than $50 a month for unlimited access. yikes

I pay less than that a year.


As for your grandma, it all depends on whats available to her locally. If you want to reveal your grandma's location then we can help you, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Like komp said, without knowing how rural your are is, we cant really help you.

You could get a dsl line, but again, we dont know if thats available to you.

Here's a tip:

Open a phone book and look under ISPs. Call someone up, tell them your story and see what they can do for you. If you're stuck, call a professional.

south usa eh, well I can say from experience that bright house is a shit company.

Those people have lied to me, lied to my mother, called us liars and in general have the WORST customer, and cable and internet service I have ever experienced.

Alot of that comes from the fact I live on a very old grid that they have to come service every week just about.

A friend of mine has comcast internet, and he never seems to have a problem, not only that but get gets 2mb/s to my 1mb/s.

Bright house is rolling out its 40mb/s line called wide band, but if it sucks anything like their regular service, they can keep it.

You should re-do your plan based on the idea that att customers talk free to each other. Me and my mom have a very small plan due to the fact that we mostly talk to each other. although she uses her phone for work so the mins get used.

yeah, that's asinine...there's definitely a better way to get all that for way less than $700 freakin' dollas!

i feel i could be of real help if i could sit down, look at her bill and call the company, but i can't. good lord. monthly, our dtv, dsl and home phone (all bundled with at&t) is like $120. Our home phone is bare minimum. No long distance packages because we all have that with our cell phones unlimited, etc and we hardly ever use our landline now. i honestly only keep it for emergancies...you get connected to local emergancy lines (911) faster than if you were calling from your cell...they also know where you're calling from right away if you call from your landline...easier to find your location and quicker if you're unable to speak, etc...

you've gotta be really vigilant in checking these bills and calling the phone company. they should be pretty helpful if you call at&t (hopefully), make them explain every charge and take notes, also, make note of who you spoke with and what time you called because sometimes you can call back and someone else will give you different info. TOTALLY go over that bill man.

They are very guilty of telling you whatever you need to hear to get off the phone, then turning around and and screwing you over. They did this to someone recently who I hang out with that used to post here and in general ive had them constantly do this.

This is super solid advice too, make sure you file complaints when they give you conflicting info, or flat out call you a liar.

Its a constant struggle with these people to keep them honest if you can even get that.

FiOS if you can get it with phone lumped into the package. We have unlimited landline calling that is fiberoptic not over the internet (e.g., Comcast), which I believe = far superior call quality. My friend used to bitch about the call quality when he switched to Comcast's phone service package.

I looked over a few bills and theres all kinds of bull shit we've never heard of or asked for.. Plus I was skeptical but I'm pretty sure they're just fuckin her over and adding extra minutes on everything because i have free mobile2mobile (within att customers, which is all i talk to) and i VERY RARELY talk. I pretty much only text, which I have unlimited. But some how the bill says I've went a couple hundred minuted overtime?? And they know she's really old and easily confused because she calls up there regularly about this shit, but she's just now got me involved.
