15 dead hundreds injured in stampede on Love Parade in Germany

Under 1.4 Million ravers at the open air techno festival in Duisburg, a friend of mine was unlucky enough to be right in the middle of the panic outbreak, but still lucky enough to get airlifted to the hospital with broken bones and fractures and not end up dieing whilst being trampled over by masses of people...

Another friend woke me up at 3am from Germany who was there with him and his heavily pregnant girlfriend, both shocked of course but otherwise OK.

What was meant to be a peaceful celebration of life, love, fun and drugs, ended up in a sad tragedy.

I went myself three times to the Love Parade before in the 90's, when it was held in Berlin every year, good memories of good times...

ya its bad planning. they stopped allowing access to the dancefloor because it was over crowded. so people start pushing and shoving and hopping fences, and then chaos takes over and people get hurt.

i was tripping at edc so i was kinda hanging out around the less densely populated areas. it was still a good festival, just a bunch of kids acting a fool ruining it for alot of people.

they actually just imposed an 18+ age limit at all the insomniac festivals so hopefully the one i go to today will not have any rioting/ trampling

^ I know man, it was the first thing I said too when he rang me... but you know how it is you can always stay away from the biggest crowds since it's open air and shit and they live only 20min drive away from there, so she just didn't wanna miss it I guess.

dude that shit is scary...

ive been in to some over-booked as hell shows and gotten stuck in the crowds.

Specially when its hott out or in an indoor place, and drugs are involved, it gets fucking dangerous.

being overheated and feeling like ur gonna pass out getting pushed around by hundreds or thousands of people....NOT FUN.

tis why i avoid indoor rave/club scenes.

outside not in the middle of the crowd ftw

The organizers fucked it up first by not expecting 1.4 million people but "only" half a million, then there was only one official entrance through the tunnel that became a death trap.
While thousands tried to leave the main area through the same tunnel thousands piled up trying to get in...
Imagine getting trapped in the middle of the crowd, not only there's no way to move anywhere but you feel you're slowly getting squashed to death... once the panic breaks out there's no stopping anymore... it's just a normal human reaction in that situation.

Pretty bad fuckup one wouldn't expect from German organizers but someone's gonna spend a very long time behind bars for that...

It is quite sad to hear that happened to your friends stulic... I have personally been in an indoor rave where i began to feel overheated and exhausted and when i went to take a seat on the stairs directly across from the paramedics I was harassed for "selling drugs"
I actually was not doing it at the time and when I approached the bouncer to ask for a place to get fresh air he turned to smack me, quite scary being a little guy and all but ya paramedics finally saw what was up and offered me a quick exit to through the back security doors where i was allowed to have a smoke and breathe cool air.

its actually not your choice. if you're in a mass of people unable to move freely, if that mass pushes left, you either go left with it, or fall beneath it.

Trampling and stuff like that is almost never about someone not caring about someone else they're stepping on. It has to do with physics and being unable to do anything else.

which. along with my claustrophobia, is why I would rather chew glass than be in a crowd dense enough for this scenario to happen.
