Thumbs down moving sucks

I'm only moving about 4 blocks away, but I swear it makes it even worse going such a short distance.

Going from an apartment to a house should be pretty nice though.

Anyone got tips/tricks/cheat codes for moving? Stories are cool too.

Um, this stuff might be obvious;

-load furniture last so it comes off 1st when you get there.
-i put my clothes/towels/etc in bags because they're easier to handle and can be tossed anywhere unlike boxes
-dont worry about placement when you're unloading, just get it all the fuck in there and you can organise later
-stay hydratad?

I dunno, moving's pretty simple. Just lifting and dropping. I've moved about 7 times already, and each time it was 2 people's stuff incl furniture, and each time it gets easier.

Have a garage sale before you move, and get rid of any shit you don't need, want, or feel like carrying to your new place. Then, whatever doesn't sell, call an estate auction company to come and haul away and auction off for you. You'll probably get shit for it, but it's better than just tossing it, or hauling it to the dump, which is no better than moving plus there's a fee.

For the record, I haven't moved in like 7-8 years, and if I never move again, it will be too soon. I fucking HATE moving. The older you get, the more shit you accumulate, and not everyone in my family enjoys getting rid of their shit as much as I do. Last move took almost a month. I still can't believe we were actually able to fit all that fucking crap in our apartment. I just kept taking stuff out, but it would never get empty. I took stuff, but there was still more. I kept taking it out and taking it out, and there was always more fucking stuff. Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh ......!!!!!

Joints and beers make it all fly by...I've moved 5 times across 3 states in the last 3 years..

Two long moves and 3 short moves...The short moves were the toughest because they may have just been down the block but that meant no cars to move stuff in, and moving from the bottom floor to the top floor is a bitch, especially the big stuff, couches, beds and the two giant hepa filters...

What makes it go buy fast is just getting a decent but workable buzz on and just putting your head down and not stopping until you get it done, except for water or bathroom breaks...

Yeah moving is one of those "worst things ever", I reckon too if you can afford it pay someone to do it for you.

Depends on who you hire. My grandparents, one in their late 80's, had to sleep on the floor for a week because of a fuckup by movers. It is not uncommon for them to hijack your shit, too, bringing up extra charges once all your stuff is in their possession. Do your research if you're going to hire a mover, and make sure they have a good track record. Also, buy insurance because they WILL break some of your shit.

^ You guys must have inept/callous friends.

Beer, Food, and Bud is all you need to motivate people to help you out.

I'd rather just smoke drink and eat with my friends anyway, and pay some other dudes to carry heavy things up stairs and around awkward corners (ever taken a double bed up a spiral staircase?). Plus, professional movers are insured out the ass, friends are not.

Yes, you dismantle and rearrange for moving. If you don't you're putting yourself at risk in dangerous situations regardless if you're insured or not [which most of my friends are anyway].

None of my friends have pick ups, we rent a U-Haul and aren't dumbasses.

Your friends are insured against damages to your stuff? I didn't mean health insurance, free medical care in this country ftw.

I've moved less than 4 blocks before...and i swear it was easier than moving a longer distance, but that's just me.

Hopefully by the time you read this you'll already be moved...see...that wasn't so bad.

its not so bad if you have friends that are willing to accept beer and a homemade meal as payment. i find the unpacking to be worse than the actual moving
