I did it, i taught/tutored english as a second language and basic math for new comers to kanada. The school board paid me outa their slush fund....by cheque of course. No drug testing.....i've never heard of that test being mandatory in quebec or ontario for that matter.

Thanks for the info, I'm just south of Ontario(cross the lake) in Pennsylvannia. Hopefully the US universities have a similar mind-set.
Tutoring isn't a big deal or at least I wouldn't think. Then again I've been told to fork over my urine for far more menial jobs. :crosses fingers: and thanks again!

I TA`d last year for a class.. it`s like 15hrs a week, plus correspondence to students with trouble and stuff. It was kind of weird, because there were a lot of people I knew from first year in the class I was TA'ing. The way they set it up, it was like a contract. So I got paid for a predetrmined number of hours at a set rate [14$/hr].
It's more so about being able to put it on your resume though, and the experience than it is about the money. It's really good to be able to put on your resume though, and you get to know more profs which never hurts your gpa..

yeah i helped run some workshops with uni teaching kids how to use the tv studio, all the consoles/ cameras/ lights and stuff. It was really cool, the kids were funny as fuck.
they didnt drug test me but they did a CRB check to make sure i wasnt a pedo and didnt have a criminal record. and yea i got paid. it was £8 an hour which worked out as £200 a week, for two weeks.

Jeese herb thats like 200 a week, that's pretty good money man. I was thinking more along the lines of minimum wage, if they pay me minimum and accept me then that would be amazing. Even if it only was 10-15 hours a weak. I have no income right now, and I fear if I got a job outside of academia right now I might lose my mind(don't ask).
I was considering doing it for free(before I knew they offered $), just because it would be a good way to help people, meet more people, brush up on some things, help my resume, get some more experience with helping people to learn, etc. Cool stuff though guys, thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm definitely gonna have to get into contact with whoever at my school is in charge of this sort of thing, and soon.
