to be a pot farmer
It is now fully decided that any time some one asks me 'what I wanna do in life' I will now respond with: "I want to legally farm pot."
And I'm gonna do good by the people, not for the money but for the feeling of sharing this medicine, or rather, this miracle of a plant with others. To distribute, legally and with no worry, a happy, feel-good lifestyle to those who choose such. And also for the vast potential of this plant (hemp materials and oil, etc etc) So YaHooka, where might one pursue a (non gov't) career in this field, with the legitimacy and legality of our forefathers? In what countries is this legal?

the closest thing your gonna get to legal is being a caregiver (?)
even all the 'legal' weed in amsterdam is illegally grown.

I don't know where you live, but if MMJ is legal in your state, that's where I would start. Research what you need in the way of licensing and all that, what the regulations are, what you can hope to charge vs. how much you can hope to grow, etc. and sit down and crunch the numbers. Even if you intend to not get rich off it, it still has to generate a profit you can live off of.
In fact, a few books on business plans, running a small business, and general gardening / farming would be a good investment. I don't know the extent of your horticultural knowledge, but there's more to it than just sticking seeds in the ground then coming back in a few months to harvest buds. In fact, you would do best if you made it a priority to continuously increase your knowledge of all things botany. I hope that helps. Check back in November. If pot's legal in Calif. by then, you can come here and start a farm. ![]() The Rev |

the disclaimer brought negativity? lame.
but thanks Rev, the only knowledge I have on actual horticulture is from what I learned in school (didn't pay much attention) But I've read a large portion of the grow bible and many other sources, namely here. Wouldn't it be cool to have a large field of marijuana and tended/maintained by only you and your family, making enough profit to live subtly on your farm? Wouldn't that be a bad ass way to be raised as a kid?? Hell yes.

It might be legal in the future, but chances are there's thousands of head's who are already doing it big and well enough that the public just won't need your hands. I know my friend's of a friend's father who does grow legally(other-side of the US) for research is a biochemist(pretty rough degree but totally possible). Research seems to be one of those things where though your not moving crop, your always around it, and if you find something nice you can get a slick patent on it or publish papers on your findings(wonder how many patents are even left in that field though?).
The economics behind legal pot farming are going to probably be very different than illegal pot farming. So almost everything you think you know about the "market" now, will surely be flipped upside down. It's going to be about getting approval, negotiating with the federal agencies that will be in charge of that thing, etc. It's gonna be real political I am assuming. Not as laid back as one might assume. Not to mention the price drop that would happen as soon as it became legal, oo boy. Those 300+ dollar funk ounces will be like 60 dollars(weight movers are pretty pissy about legalization). It may sound like I'm trying to put you down but there's hundreds of people who would do anything to quit their day job and just farm nuggets. It's possible, but have an alternative in mind just in case... People already gold-rush to cali because of the medical business(people get paid 20k-30k just for manicuring buds during the season I've heard).

I'm a gonna get me a big field and some charras harvesting machines some day.
yo you can grow fields of pot but usually only in marginal places where the AK47 rifle rules. If you want to get in on the US thing (assuming coming legality) you want to study biochem like TJ said or study agri business. Or start breeding weed. It's going to require work/sacrifice/balls of steel/etc Or get a license to grow for caregiving re teh Rev's post. Still not any easy way to make a living- there is competition. As things stand the Federales still might be able to fuck with you. Mediterranean countries (some of them) are fairly relaxed about weed but you can't grow fields of it. And there isn't that much market locally because everyone grows their own or knows someone who does.

yeah.. It'd have to be a side job.
Or maybe find a small community and become pot king ![]() cause it will be legal (recreationally) pretty soon in the US.
